We have 4 people who can play acoustic/rhythm guitar. Of the 4, the team leader and I play electric, which somehow translates into knowing how to play bass.
So somehow I get stuck on bass twice a month. I find it boring, but do it because the band sounds thin without it. That said, I'm learning to appreciate a low B string... 7 string telecaster anyone? |

We have two worship teams. The one that I don't play on hass an amazing bass player. He is really good. It was heard that I had a bass. An old beatle bass. At any rate the second team needed a bass player. I knwo the fretboard and own a bass, that up until this past summer I hadn't played since 1991.
I have to say I'm having fun. I sing as well. Its very different singing and playing bass. I'm not very good but I can hold the beat and play the notes. I usually say I add a frequency. Everyone says it sounds great, and I enjoy the fellowship. Praise God.

There was a two year period that I played nothing but bass--I figured I could make a bigger impact on the worship team's overall sound by switching over. We had an excellent drummer, so it was fun. It definitely help me understand theory and harmony better. I also listed to a lot of jazz--Charles Mingus, Stanley Clarke, and Jaco Pastorius was always playing in my MP3 player, and would try to incorporate their ideas and styles into my playing. I would say overall, I enjoyed playing bass more.
