I'm shocked no one has mentioned Jonny Lang's latest - Turn Around... this is simply one of the best albums in years - and he's been known to use a tele from time to time.
http://www.jonnylang.com/ Also, a relatively new 'Christian' band (I agree with the dislike of the label thing) is NeedtoBreathe... their lastest album Heat is quite good (not pop-y) |

Last few: Jonny Lang's Turn Around, Todd Agnew's Grace Like Rain, Dixie Hummingbirds' Diamond Jubilation, Blind Boys of Alabama with Ben Harper There Will Be a Light. All real good in different ways.

At this point I only buy maybe 3 or 4 albums a year. I don't think I've ever bought a Christian album.
The fam listens to it in the car and my daughter has some Switchfoot and Relient K albums though.

I picked up a copy of John Tesh's "Worship at Red Rocks". I wasn't planning to buy it but I was in line at the supermarket buying groceries and it was in the cut-out bin for $5, so I threw it in the cart. I was actually surprised by how much I liked it.
I'm with a lot of other people here, in that I find much of Christian music and even some worship music to be pretty pukey, phony, fake, contrived, watered-down, mediocre.....the list goes on and on. It's rare to find the genuine article. Not as hard to find as a real Nocaster, thankfully Before that, it was Jars of Clay "Who we are Instead". One of the best bands around when they came out in the 90's, and still far better than most of the "top" bands that you hear on Christain Radio today IMHO.

Yeah, I'm with you, 3B and Goldilocks - most "Christian" stuff is fluffy and unrealistic, or self-consciously "spiritual" and moody. Either way, it usually has lousy lyrics. When exactly did "praising God" excuse us from using the English language in an intelligent way? I was in a "worship time" today and spent quite a bit of it looking up Isaac Watts in a handy hymnal: Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, and thus surround the throne. Let those refuse to sing that never knew our God; But children of the heav'nly King may speak their joys abroad. The men of grace have found glory begun below; Celestial fruits on earthly ground from faith and hope may grow. The hill of Zion yields a thousand sacred sweets, Before we reach the heav'nly fields or walk the golden streets. Then let our songs abound, and ev'ry tear be dry; We're marching through Immanuel's ground to fairer worlds on high! Oh, sorry for the mini-rant. Right, back on topic, most recent "Christian" album. How about Gospophilia's Trees of Righteousness, for my wife?
