New Member/First Telecaster (sort of)

Hello everyone
I'm a new member and I wasn't really sure where to post this so I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. First off I'm new here as a member. I have used this site for many resources over the past year or two but never posted. I have wanted a Telecaster for the last 20 years but once I got married and started having kids the money has been too tight to get one. Last October the wife got me a Tele kit from Guitar Fetish. This is my first guitar build project. As you all probably know the GFS kits are very affordable. It sat in the box during the Christmas season but I have finally started working on it. I have cut the paddle headstock as close to a Tele shape as I could. I think it turned out pretty good.

Back of neck.

Here are shots of the back of the neck before and after the lacquer went on.

I would like to get some opinions. I was going to do the body seafoam green to match the headstock lettering but the grain is starting to grow on me. What do you think?

Nice work!

The grain does look good with that finish. You could always keep it like that and assemble the guitar and see how like it for a while. If you decide SFG is more to you liking, or any other colour, you could refinish again and only have some bits to screw on and and couple of wires to solder. That's the beauty of Teles!

Thanks for the reply. The body only has the sanding sealer on it. Can it be used like that? The wood for these bodies is very soft. I was going to shoot lacquer on it whether I leave it natural or paint it.

Well I finished the kit and I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. Decided to go with the reranch seafoam green and Minwax laquer. Not bad for a $90.00 kit and first time build.

Looks very cool. Almost got that color myself, but like you I also love to see some woodgrain so I ended up with the 2-tone sunburst. Well, maybe my next one... Anyhow WELCOME ABOARD!

Thanks for all the replys. I'm thinking about trying another one in Butterscotch. Might go with a body in Alder or Swamp Ash and a Maple fingerboard.

Well not much af a story. I like the skunk stripe on my strat so I tried to copy it using walnut stain and masking it off. Looks a little better in person but it ain't going to fool anybody thats for sure.
