Greetings from Philadelphia!

Greetings!

I've been lurking about on this board for weeks now whilst doing research to buy my first tele. Now that I've got one, I feel like I can join!

Name's Jack, I'm 28 and live in Philadelphia (have I omitted any other information that they say you're not supposed to divulge online?) I'm primarily a drummer (spare the jokes I've heard them all :) but have been playing guitar off and on for about 10 years. Late this year I finally decided to front a band and, after playing our first gig on a borrowed guitar I decided it was time to buy my own!

I'm just dipping my feet into the tech stuff, but I figured for a while that i wanted a tele. Many of my favorites play them - most notably Joe Strummer, Bruce Springsteen and Steve Cropper. Plus, it seems everyone in the world (at least around me) plays a strat, so I wanted something different. And yes, I think they look cooler than other guitars.

Money's pretty tight right now, so I couldn't go all out. In fact, to pay for the guitar (and, in a total "rock star" move as far as I'm concerned), I ceremoniously sold mine and my ex-wife's wedding rings. What I landed with was what I think (and hope!) is a nice deal from Craigslist:

Squier Affinity, butterscotch blonde, not sure of the year but it looks pretty new. Modded with the bridge changed to stamped, drilled holes with ferrules so the strings run through the body, and fender noiseless vintage neck and bridge pickups. Oh yeah, and it's got straplocks. Not sure what etiquette is about discussing how much you've paid for a guitar, so I'll just say it was significantly less than the $180 retail price.

It plays pretty nicely, though I've yet to put it through a decent Clash workout yet :)

What about the wedding rings?

How could this have been OK with the Mrs.? haha

You already know some of the fantastic things that can be done to a tele, on and off the stage.

Funny there was a "thread" about the four way switch mod. A few responders on that thread were quite entusiastic about the mod.

I have it in one guitar but after reading that thread I gotta do it on another tele. Particularly if the tele has Keystone pick ups, which a few of the mentioned responders said they had. And so it goes. :}

Welcome friend! SO

Fortunately the ex-Mrs doesn't frequent guitar forums, so what she doesn't know won't hurt her

Thanks... well I'm certainly learning a lot about the tele, and I'm pretty good at regurgitating what I hear!

I like the 4-way switch, but never really had anything to compare it to. I'm thinking once I get used to it I'll wander into a guitar store and try out a stock Affinity to hear the difference.

What's the significance of the Keystone pickups?

Welcome neighbor! Why would you need those old rings, when your new love is on the way?

Welcome! Always good to have another local guy onboard. And while I don't have Keystones in any of my guitars (yet)...you'll learn all about them pretty soon

Sounds good bro. I'm a big clash fan myself.

Yeah, we are Pali Cannon. We are mostly originals as well. I sent you a friend request, but we don't have any music up yet.
