Hello everyone

I just wanted to introduce myself and to get some input on a decent tele to start out with. I've been playing gibsons for years, but fell in love with my friend's tele when I played it a few months ago. I finally decided that I have to have one. I've been considering a highway one model, but have heard quite a bit of discussion regarding fret size and pickup upgrades in the new models. I know much of this boils down to personal preference, but would like to know if I should just wait a bit and save the cash for Am std model. Any input is appreciated. thanks.

I have the earlier Hwy1, and I like it better than the Am Std.

I've never actually played a Hwy 1, so can't speak to that model . . . I know there are some here that love it, others not so much. I think waiting a bit is a good idea, but not necessarily to save up enough for an Am Std. Instead, keep your eyes on the classifieds here, on Craigslist and the other usual places and look for a good price on a really great used (but not abused) guitar. These days prices have been dropping on the resale market, and you can get a great guitar at a great price . . . For example, I recently acquired an AV52 RI for $750 (later sold it), and an American Deluxe Ash for $800 (with case). I've seen American Standards on Craigslist in great condition for as low as $600. It varies, of course, but keep your eyes open and you'll probably find something before long.

Thanks everyone... I am looking forward to trying out a bunch of them and probably falling in love with more than one. It's nice to know that there are other used models out there within the relative price range i'm looking for. So, the search begins.
