Howdy!

Hi there, new member here, but I have been using these forums as a reference for a long time now, and I figured it was time to commit and stop hoarding knowledge in secret ;)

Seriously, this is a great forum, and you guys and gals are a class bunch. I like that everyone is civil with each other and is very respectful and knowledgable.

Anyhows, I'm Tim from Wisconsin, I live near Madison with my Wife and Stepson, my Daughter lives up North with her Mom. I have been playing guitar on and off now for about 30 years. I stopped a few years to do the family thing, and had back surgery back in 2004 where I went goofy healing up at home. My Brother who doesn't play much, knew I was going nuts with boredom and he brought his guitar over for me to mess around with. Well it all came back, I had forgotten how much I loved playing guitar, though I was pretty rusty after a near decade break.

I got my first Telecaster in 2005 quite by accident. I had some old gear that I wasn't using that sat for along time in the attic. Nothing really special, but I didn't have a need for a 1980's jcm 800 stack, especially living in a condo. Also, I hadn't played hair metal in years. So I traded in for some gear that would be more condo/family friendly. Mind you, playing in hair cover bands left me in that mode still, I grabbed a Jackson Dinky with Floyd, a GNX4 a pair of good monitor speakers, and some other odds n ends. I still had some store credit to use up, so I alsobgrabbed a MIM Tele on a whim and walked out.

Well I dumped the Jackson after playing it about a year, I just felt silly playing the thing. Here I am, 41 now, a little heavier, and certainly nowhere near having hair for a hair band. My music tastes had changed also since the 80s/90s I now enjoy blues, country, you know..stuff where the guitar stands out and helps set the mood, or tell the story of the song, it's not just noise in the background. I started playing the tele exclusivly, I loved the nuances of it. I liked that the tone and volume were so responsive, I could shape so much more out of them 2 single coils than I ever could out of mountains of heavy gear and pedals. With the GNX 4 and my PC, it was like rediscovering myself and my musical side all over again, it was great!

I bought a 5 watt tube amp to mess with =) but for now, my Telecaster, my modeler and my full range monitor speakers (which really make the modeller sound the way it should sound) are all I need to record, play, and just enjoy the ride. (I'm saving up to build a tweedy)

I am now and forever a telecaster man. I understand now why them guys in the 80s still played them when the rest of us had pointy hot pink nightmares that said BC Rich, or Kramer. (Sure wish I would have bought up some of the older teles, they were all over the place back then) I get it now, and it's kinda taken over my life.. My Wife thinks it's cute, but I can't stop thinking about my telecaster, I stare at it, I think about it as a friend, and not just an instrument.

Nice to meet ya all!

Tim

Hey Tim! Welcome! Another Wisconsinite here. I lived in Madison for about 10 years until moving back to the Stevens Point area about 18 months ago, so I know the area well. It's a great city, to say the least.
