New Member in Need of Overdrive!

Hey All,

A new member of TDPRI and a new owner of a Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue 40watt, 112 combo. I play a stock Highway One Telecaster through a Dunlop Cry Baby and a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal. I am looking for an overdrive pedal that will help me get a little break up for rock and blues rhythm but also be able to crank the overdrive for some nice blazing solos. Any suggestions under $200?

Andrew

google time...Fulltone makes good stuff, Toadworks, there's a ton of OD pedals out there. Pick on that fits your budget.

Check out Jacques Overtube just for fun. Thats what I have, and while I haven't owned many overdrives, I can testify this one sounds great for me. Randy Bachman uses one, and apparently this one is modeled after the original vintage tubescreamers, the only difference is that this one is designed with two complete circuits built into it I believe, with a switch giving you the option of cascading one circuit into the other, like Stevie Ray Vaughn and many others used to do. I don't know if I'm doing a very good job of describing this pedal or not but it might be worthwhile just googling it and checking a few reviews...I have been using mine into the front of my Traynor ycs90 fot the past few weeks and I am very satisfied thus far...good luck

Welcome! You've got some good suggestions on here for overdrive. Keep in mind that some of us go back to the Bad Monkey often, and the price is right!

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice everyone! All of the suggestions seem good. I am just trying to take my time and buy something I want to keep for a long time. That was my rule when I purchased my guitar and amp and it hasn't let me down!

Any opinions on the exotic BB?

welcome. :)

the BB is good but it can be a lot more overdrive that you need considering you have a DS1. I say have the DS1 modified and get yourself a tube screamer of some sort. maybe even an SD1 or a BD2. get those modified as well! get the best your money can buy!

try the vox cooltron line. there is about 3 or 4 ODs, all using tubes. They might be a bit over your budget, but the tone! my gosh , the tone! I use the Vox duel OD which has 2 in 1 to allow for more options. I love it.

Pedal Mods

I am from a small city on a small corner of Newfoundland which is a small island on a small corner of Canada. How does one go about getting a pedal modded? I have read that is the best way to go but I do not know how to go about it.

Well, I am new here aswell...But thought I would post here before making my introduction.

Well. you have quite a few options...I USED (I have a boss gt-8 now) a "Boss Super Overdrive"...I am VERY pleased with it. I "hooked it up" to my "good ol' epiphone sg" and into my little amp and it just BLAZED. Put my tele through it and "HOLY MOTHER OF TELE" the thing just sang!

I thought it it wouldn't do aswell as a humbucker being the tele is single coil but I was oh so wrong.

I still use this pedal from my boss gt-8 (the boss gt-8 has EVERY pedal by boss with exact "configuration" to make it exact like the original pedal)...So I use it A LOT, but that being said, I use the Ibanez TubeScreamer on this pedal (and I use to use as a single pedal), and I like it to.

Try the fulltoneOD aswell...Good stuff right there.

Anything will get you into the ballpark, even a digitech back monkey, ;). Just go to your local music shop and see what fits you the best.

TubeScreamer will give you grit, and the Boss will combine grit and "smoothness" by tweaking it with its 3 simple controls (the boss has VERY good range), but the fulltone will do the same.

So, "go with the flow" and see which one suits you best.
