Hi from Melbourne, Australia

Hi all,

Always wanted a tele and have been reading this forum for a while and just bought a Classic Vibe tele (had it a week) after reading rave reviews on this forum and am really happy with it. Have a Fender Strat Deluxe, Epi LP Jr 57 Reissue with Mick Brierley P90, Martin OOO16 and mid range Yamaha classical. Been playing off and on for 20 years but only back into electric for 12 months, after a long break.

I am into amp modding (valve junior with Marshally pre into 6v6) and am mid build on a 13 watt 6GW8 version of a Marshall 18 watt I am trying to do on the cheap.

Looking to do a few more mods/upgrades to my CV tele, maybe change saddles, ground the neck pickup pocket, not sure what else yet.

Welcome! There sure are a lot of members here from Australia. I work for GHD, a large Australian engineering firm. I wonder if any of our members are my fellow employees.

thanks for the welcome

re some of the queries.

Barkley

Really not happy with guitar prices in Australia. Even with the usual bargaining down from RRP. So bought the CV online from the US, paid A$585 all up for the CV tele and an SKB fender case (and US$75 worth of fedex). Loving where the $A is at the moment. Figured if I wasn't happy with it then I'd flip it and get another one. As long as I got $400 for it, I'd be no worse off. But I'm happy with it so no need.

Tony

The Brierley P90 I am really happy with, exchanged a few emails with Mick so he knew what I was after, really good service. Standard winding with alnico V magnets. No comparison to the piece P100 that came with it (the LP Jnr reissue).

I keep hearing this over and over again. Seeing how most of my family are Australian and I have an Australian passport (might need to renew it) I was planning on taking trip down in the new year. I was playing on bringing as much guitar stuff with me as possible, some to use, some I might actually sell on.

I don't really know what kind of gear I'll bring as of yet. I was leaning towards a few quality vintage pieces from the states Fenders and Gibsons with maybe the odd 60s Kalamazoo Epiphone thrown in. I guess I will be only be able to bring a limited amount of stuff as luggage, but what do you think should go in my flight cases?

What kind of vintage gear is needed in Oz?

Hi from a yank in Adelaide!

Australia could use anything it can get, guitar-wise. I'm sure it'll sell.

I've heard quite a few of Mick's pickups and he does a bang-up job. Since he makes them custom, he does his best to match your requirements. Fun dude to hang out with too.

I used Sliders Vintage Classic 59's on my 57/62 strat build, hes up in Sydney and they are great, very nice bell tones. I am using Harmonic Design Z90's in a strat Baritone build i am doing, from all reports these are the ducks guts but i havent wired them up yet. I am doing a tele XII from a piece of ancient Kauri i have coming in from Kiwi land and that at this stage i may use some lipssticks i have laying around or an old Untrasonic HB i have here which at this stage is going into a tele/LP junior build i have planned for my other piece of Ancient Kauri. Too many guitars not enough time lol

As far as parts go with $$ at 90c+ i find it easier to get my parts in from the States and cheaper. Just as well we have an open trade agreement hehe
