TundraTone Custom Relic '60 Vintage White Telecaster* Style Guitar!

TundraTone Custom Relic '60 Vintage White Telecaster* Style Guitar!

The year is 1960. In the wake of a scandal involving Alan Freed accepting payola, the National Association of Broadcasters threatens to fine anyone who accepts money for playing on the radio any particular music recording. Four well dressed young black men sit-in at a segregated lunch counter at the Woolworth Department Store in Greensboro, North Carolina and are refused service, and later this very year are served. The Eisenhower administration announces that 3,500 U.S. soldiers will be sent to Vietnam to support the regime of Ngo Dinh Diem, beginning US involvement in the Vietnam war. Cuba and the Soviet Union establish formal diplomatic relations. Cuba nationalizes oil refineries owned by U.S. companies after they refuse to process Soviet oil. Khrushchev threatens to use Soviet rockets to protect Cuba from the threat of U.S. aggression. Sen. John F. Kennedy and VP Nixon participate in the first televised presidential debate attracting an unprecedented audience of over 60% of the nations adult population. Kennedy eventually wins the election by a narrow margin becoming the first Catholic president. Marty Robbins snags the Billboard number one single with "El Paso".

Musical innovation continues with rock 'n roll, blues, jazz and country hits filling the AM airwaves with tunes like Bo Diddley "Roadrunner", Chuck Berry "Too Pooped to Pop", Ray Charles "Let The Good Times Roll", BB King "Sweet Sixteen", Muddy Waters "I Feel So Good", Dave Brubeck "Time Out", James Brown "Think", Duane Eddy "Shazam", Elmore James "Make My Dreams Come True", Everly Brothers "Cathy’s Clown" "When Will I Be Loved", Eddie Cochran "Cut Across Shorty", Sam Cooke "What a Wonderful World", Roy Orbison "Only the Lonely", The Ventures "Walk, Don't Run" and many, many more. Eddie Cochran dies in a car accident in the UK. Johnny Horton dies in a car crash in Texas. The movie Ben Hur wins 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture. "Mack the Knife" by Bobby Darin takes record of the year at the Grammy Awards.

Another highlight of 1960 was the Fender* Telecaster*. After a brief flirtation with a top-loading bridge in 1959, the strings were once again routed through the body of the guitar and anchored in the back. Three ply mint green pickguards are now appearing.

Tundratone Custom Guitars - Built from only the finest components available (nothing "off the shelf" here!), equipped with Rumpelstiltskin handwound pickups, MJT vintage finish bodies and necks, TundraTone electronics (of course!), hard or soft shell cases (depending on model) and expertly setup and ready to play. All guitars come with a free t-shirt and an exclusive harness swap guarantee. If for any reason, you want to try a different harness (3-way, 4-way or 5-way) within the first 90 days from date of purchase, just let us know and we'll exchange it for you!

Features
  • Vintage White/Blond finish by MJT (Mark and Matt Jenny) Finishes. 100% nitro finished - aged to perfection to look like a 50 year old Tele*.
  • Swamp ash body by Wildwood Manufacturing
  • Allparts TRO-FAT chunky neck - 1" at the first fret to 1" at the twelfth fret. 9.5" radius for easy play and vintage style frets. The fretboard edges have been painstakingly rolled by hand and all fret edges dressed.
  • Genuine Kluson vintage style tuners
  • Bone nut
  • Period correct "threaded" steel barrel saddles
  • Rumpelstiltskin White Rope pickups! Neck output is about 7.2k DCR and the bridge is 6.8k DCR. A5 magnets in both for dead accurate vintage tone! If you've never heard or owned a set of Aaron's pickups, you owe it to yourself to get a set. If you have, you already know why I say they are the best pickups available.
  • All body cavities lined with copper foil to combat noise
  • All guitars come with aged Dunlop straplocks and buttons (standard aged buttons included!)
  • All hardware hand aged
  • TundraTone 4-way Telecaster* harness with ITW (one of my favorites) .047 tone cap, CTS 250k 10% highest quality pots. Oak 4-way switch. Heavy knurled domed nickel knobs. Aged, period correct "top-hat" switch tip.
  • D'Addario EXL110 (010-.046) strings installed
  • Gator hardshell case included
  • Guitar weighs only ~6.8 lbs!
This guitar is expertly setup and plays and sounds fantastic! The Rumpelstiltskin White Rope pickups are the finest repros you can get. Clear, detailed, spanky and as twangy as you want, This pickup set uses materials and windings you would find on a mid 50's to early 60's Tele*. Hand wound using 43 gauge plain enamel wire on the neck pickup with alnico 5 magnets, 42 gauge wire with staggered alnico 5 magnets on the bridge pickup and black vulcanized fiber flatwork. This set is for those who love a more scooped mid range and bright twang, without being thin. Very traditional Tele* tones.

The 4-way harness gives some added tones to your arsenal! The positions are (from back to front):
  1. Bridge only (normal Tele*)
  2. Bridge and Neck in parallel
  3. Neck only
  4. Bridge and Neck in series (this sounds like a fat humbucker and is great for smoking blues tones)

This guitar is setup and ready to go. You will not be disappointed! It has been assembled with the same care and attention to detail as all of our products!

$1200 paypal'd and shipped to the CONUS!

I know I am new face on TDPRI, but I can provide references to folks that have purchased either my guitars or my harnesses. I spend close to 30 hours on each guitar building, adjusting and detailing it. All specs are part of the COA, including string height, nut height, etc. I'm particularly happy with the neck on this. As good as allparts necks are, you would not recognize this one as an Allparts. The hand-rolled edges make it feel so comfortably broken in.

Feel free to ask any questions of me, google Tundratone, ask around, I take phone calls, etc.
