New T-style pickup announcement here first~ "Bucks~Cannon" T~set
Well, I finally went and did it.....
that is: I went ahead and made up a set to get that "Buck Cannon" sound that I was getting/using prior to me changing over to my 2324 Buch's Nancy Pickups! this was a time when I worked for another maker ~ and was playing in my "Buck Cannon" band using a Duncan "for Broadcaster®" and a 5/2 Nashville neck. after some "tweaking" with the set - I came up with my own version for getting that sound I had back then - Its a Alnico-3 Bridge wire 43 (1950 Broadcaster® era wire gauge 43) at 8.5k and a 5/3 neck at 7.9k - Nickel Silver Cover ( Dark bluesy neck- but not muddy!) this set is for players who like to run some dirt "Full time" and maybe some delay too? its more of a Jeff Beck-ish way to get Roys tones - but its pretty dang cool. its not a set for plugging straight in and trying to cop Roys tones - more of a rocker then a twanger. but I felt that I had a nice sound that was well commented back in those days and I wanted to launch a new set to tribute that time of my life.. so I thought I would announce it here first its not even on my web site yet. I got "Bucks-Cannon" set #0001 installed in my same Tele® I used back in those days - and its sounding KILLER... ( FWIW I do not play out anymore at all - as Buck Cannon or even as just (myself) Don Mare... This is due to 80% arthritis taking over my back and neck - sadly I had to quit playing out - cause my back and neck just becomes unbearable in one set... and popping over the counter pain pills is not the answer - so I stopped playing gigs) so there ya have it - a tribute set to my old days ... I hope some players will use them and enjoy this set of pickups. cheers Don --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer Don Mare Pickups Is not associated with Fender® the trade name and trade marks are the property of the respective company Telecaster®, Tele®,Broadcaster® are registered trademarks of Fender® Musical Instruments Corp. First let me say that I am sorry that you are struggling with the disease.
Second, the pickups sound like they would be great. One quick request, could you post some sound clips? thanx Don.

actually it's part of the reason my weekly production is limited to just 21 pickups per week ... getting old presents challenges that most of us may have to face sooner or later i guess. i'm glad i'm my own boss - this could be a real challenge to deal with in a sweat shop type job - where there is never "light duty" even if the doctor put you on light duty.... I find if I don't aggravate the arthritis the day goes by much better - standing onstage and giving the guitar a good whackin' seemed to quickly remind me - the old gray mare ain't what she used to be.. but over all i'm still really happy and - enjoy acoustic guitars outdoors - |

In a perfect world, Don, there would be a section in the public library where I could check out a set of pickups for a few weeks, then return them and check out a different set. I'd have to try yours from A to Z. Those new ones sound like they'll be pretty cool.
Tough break on the arthritis. How do you do sitting down? If all those lazy pedal steel guys can get away with it, you could, too. |

I'm sorry to hear about the arthritis. I wish somebody would come up with a cure for that crippling disease.
In any case, thank you for continuing to make all those awesome pickups. You truly have some fine products. |

Hey Don, thanks for the set of 2324 Nancys with the special cover on the neck pickup. They're at the luthier's right now and the build is in process.
Have you thought about acupuncture for the arthritis? I've used it for 30+ years for just about everything. Drop me a line if you want me to try and track down a good acupuncture practitioner in your area.... I have friends in the business. |
