Southern, classified as "Swamp" because of it's Punky nature and weight.

Fraxinus pennsylvanica (Green Ash), Fraxinus americana (White Ash), or ??...

Did they call it "Swamp Ash" at the lumberyard? Or one of the above species names...

By species it is Fraxinus americana. From there, the discussion of what different types of Ash are is hugely circular, and I have never seen a conclusive answer.
