Float My Boat Blues - Larry F backing track

All,

I wrote some lyrics for "Float my Boat Blues" posted by Larry F (thanks!) and recorded a little jazzy blues with it. I've been wanting to do a Lonnie Johnson style "Hokum" blues (sexual double entendre) and this looked like a good opportunity!

Guitars are Casino for rhythm and strat for leads played through a Toneport using Vox AC30 for rhythm and Marshall for leads.

If you've got the time and inclination, let me know what you think I could improve on and what you liked - especially if you play jazz as I've never tried to do this sort of song before...

Thanks,
Josh

Man! How cool was that. Suave and leering at the same time. An incredibly evocative work. I'd love to hear you do a set of these, all in a hokum manner. The guitar playing was very expressive. We had a thread a while ago about comping. This would be a perfect example. Solowise, I really liked how you stretched the pitch language. Your pitch choices went hand in hand with yor phrasing, which was top-of-the line. If you do more work like this, playing rhythm and lead, I think making a greater distinction between the two instruments in the use of reverb would make the final result sound even more like two different musicians playing. I'll sent a link of this to my students who played on this. They'll be knocked out.

Thanks much Larry - you made my day! As for the reverb stuff - do you think I should add more reverb to the rhythm?

I'd love to do a few more based on your backing tracks - they really are inspirational. I'll see if I come up with anything worthwhile. Ed P and I did a guitar instrumental based on Easter Bunny Blues - I posted it earlier in the week.

Here's the lyrics in case you're interested:

Float my Boat Blues

C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
It's a tall masted schooner
Full of champagne and coke

Momma told me son
You got a learn how to sail
She said the fine little girls
Hate being thrown up on the rails
You better really be 18
Or they'll throw my ass in jail

C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
We can drop the anchor down baby
And we'll get real real real real close

C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
I'll sail it real easy
I'll sail it long and slow

Daddy told me boy
You gotta steer that boat right
Cause fittin in the slip
Can be oh so tight

C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
C'mon little girl
We can float my boat
When the waves come a crashing
I'm gonna reap just what I sowed

Hey little girl
Why you checking on the time
Hey little girl
Why you checking on the time
I'm afraid you got a meeting
And you're gonna drop that dime

Hey little girl
Who's that man on the shore?
Hey little girl
Who's that man on the shore?
You best collect your stockings
I'm sure you can find the door

Say cheers to your students for me - they swing!

Thanks,
Josh
