you know in your post about microphone's I started to say some other stuff, but I'm trying to just 'answer the question' than 'upsell' into a bunch of stuff... but... if you are mostly recording guitar and a little vocals... I'd buy a tone port and buy a shure sm57 that will allow for an xlr to 1/4 cable for when you need to sing... you can scam your way to the 70.00 for the toneport out of lunch money... then add the mic when you need it.

If you end up playing in a band you can repurpose the 57 and get more use out of it. in the meantime the toneport will give you everything you need.

There will be other opinions that would work, but you'll get useful sounds out of what I'm suggesting... otherwise the snowball is a good usb mic.

Getbent,

Thank you for posting the backing tracks, great stuff. One forgets how much more fun it is to play with a band compared to playing solos by yourself.

leftyjay, your solo on the first country track posted blew me away. Great stuff. Surely you are a professional player?

Just discovered this part of the tdpri a few days ago and I cannot believe the quality of everything I have heard. Really inspiring especially the solo Jazz stuff.

Thanks again getbent!

Just a footnote leftyjay,

Every consider transcribing that solo you played over getbent's country backing track. Just getting into Jazz and country out of a heavier blues and metal style. IT goes without saying soloing over changes is much more complex than just playing pentatonic or harmonic minor stuff. I wonder how many of us would be grateful to have that solo written out to learn from?

Just a thought-- Where can one find a good country solo written out in Tab to learn from? Someone once said to play music well one must first imitate, then assimilate and then innovate.

Get one of Terry Downs videos. They are great and hard and I am still working through some of the solos (my fingers are dumber than crap sometimes)

Glad you like the jams... they are fun to do and I have some new ones coming!

Hey thanks Getbent. My buddy can make you a PTP repro if that's what you're talking about. Right now he's got a Blonde PTP Repro Deluxe Reverb you could talk to him about. Let me know, and I'll get you in touch with him.

I hate to sound like someone half my age, but what the hell:

DUDE, THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!

I just rechecked this thread after a few weeks and found more getbent goodies. I've got headphones on blasting this track with my sorry a$$ guitar playing cranked up and am in absolute wanna-be-a-rock-star heaven. I swear getbent, your backing tracks have provided me some serious feel good moments.

Thanks man!

- James

P.S. Okay, I'll stop being a doofus now.

James,
Hey man, I appreciate the positive feedback! I'm busy in my little studio... I've got some more coming... I wanna do a backing track for folks to do Ghost Riders in the Sky (or just wail over the progression) and a buckaroo one... and maybe some others.... My bosses boss just gave me 3 extra days off this month, so I'll take two of them just to record. I also just got some new country drum loops so I'm messing around with them...

MORE TO COME... lemme know when you get sick of them.

Late for the party? Who? Me?

I found the first track posted over on the FDP...I didnt make the association of that track to this thread until this morning...

Anyway, heres my take on the inital backing track. Sometimes trying to mike a dobro is like giving a drunkard a pie pan and a spoon. There are a couple clams but nothing that would grab your foot and drown you...

Don, nice job! I dig the dobro! Would it be possible to send me just the track with dobro not the backing part? There are two parts of it I'd like to cut into a loop if it would be okay with you... I've been messing around with creating a loop library (I put an example on this thread) and I'd love to have your dobro on there... just kicking around an idea for an expansion to the product.

Quirky take on the blues

Hey Getbent,

Thanks for these! Always cool to have these kinds of tracks to mess with! And they're all very nicely done too.

Well, I guess I was feeling quirky tonight. I hadn't played blues in a while and I thought I'd have some fun trying *not* to play my usual blues cliches over this one. I was out there on the edge of the limb with a few of these phrases - my timing is a little off in spots and you can sort of hear me thinking about what not to play next .

This is definitely not "blues" per se, but I thought it had some interesting/entertaining moments, if for no other purpose than to hear someone playing blues who is trying hard not to play blues!

This is my 50's tele with a Deluxe Nashville neck, Fralin Blues at the bridge, Line6 UX2. Not perfectly in tune and this was my first (and only) take. I just grabbed the last several measures because a) they were the most interesting and b) it would have bored us all to death to hear me noodling over this whole tune.

Thanks! I guess it's my Steely Dan influence coming through. I always liked that angular sort of phrasing in the SD guitar solos.

Thanks again for sharing the tracks - I'm going to have some fun with these. Love the Cajun-flavored one!

Nope.Thats a Telecaster with a fast flanger.
Jimmy Vaughan use to have his guitar sound that way on some songs.I like it even if I never can get close to Jimmys tone.Would be great to know how he does it,can`t just be that he plays a Strat!,or is it?
Thanks for your help Getbent!
Cheers,Wikur!
