Texas Weather with Tele

This is from a basement jam-session I did at Christmas time. It's my ash Tele with Custom Shop Texas Tele neck pickup, Fulltone FD2 and my '93 Blues Deluxe amp cranked.

If you think SRV on a Tele is blasphemy, you probably shouldn't click. :) (And yes, I have the license to post the cover tune).

Couldn't Stand The Weather

We recorded it with my ProTools rig--Mac iBook, Digi 002-R, Behringer ADA-8000 and as many mics as we could find for the drum kit. I just remixed it this afternoon for a bit more clarity. It's a really nice recording considering we were in the same room thrashing away. There's one overdub--a B3 track.

Bass (and Hammond B3 overdub)- Bob DiGiacomo
Drums - Andy Robbins
Vocals - Damon Mollenkopf

Hey PC my man!! I loved it man. You should have extended it a little. You guys were really smokin and you had me going and I could have listened to an extended version :) That's ok, I'll listen again. 8) The Tele sounded great. Great band Pete!!

Thanks Joe. You're right, we probably should have gone on longer--we usually tend to, especially in Jam situations like that. I think I was just anxious to turn off the recording so I could make sure it actually worked. :)

Anyway, thanks for the compliments. I agree--great band. That drummer and bass player are a joy to play with, and Damon shines on anything he sings.

At first...

..I thought this was gonna be another SRV clone tune...

But I was pleasantly surprised to hear YOUR playing style melted into the tune.

The recording came out dang nice, and you and the jam band did an excellent job with the tune.

Really liked the funked up guitar solo part...definately added you all's own flare to the oh so over-played song.

You guys would kill here in Texas! Good job!

Hey, thanks E-man. That's a great compliment too. I hadn't even thought that posting this would get the "ugh, another SRV tune" response, but of course it might. I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to it anyway and offering your response.

Yeah... I really loved Stevie's playing, but I definitely don't do things like he did. I couldn't if I wanted to, but why would I want to? He already did it.

It's not always an easy thing to put a individual twist on a tune that's imprinted note for note on most guitarists brains.

I really like hearing someone 'break out' of the format, and lay down what he's thinking/feeling in their own 'words'.

As mentioned, it was nice to hear you playing...rather than you playing SRV's licks!

OTOH, I play a guitar just like the rest of us here..and I feel that 'we' listen to music differently than non musician types. I'd much rather play to a group of 'normal' folks, than a group of guitar slingers.. :)

It takes a decent amount of intestinal fortitude to lay a track out in front of this huge number of excellent pickers.
