The Majestic High - Our first two
Although it's been nearly a year since these two were done, my best friend(now hubby) and I have been doing a sorta shoegaze-meets-1960s jangling kinda thingy(wait a sec, The Lassie Foundation already did that), and really want to finish this thing soon. Anyway, here are the first two to be somewhat "done", with unfortunately NO TELECASTERS. What you are hearing is:
"Mystery year" CIJ Jazzmaster(N-series=late '90s?) Brownsville Choirboy-12(now sold) Gretsch 5070 Jumbo '78 Fender Jazz Bass (Temporary) programmed drum tracks Although silent (vox-wise) on See Her Fall(A song about a guy fall ing in love with a girl at church) I get featured on Silverkiss with a bunch of Oooo Laa Laa Laas, and the songs w/me on lead vox will be done later, for very funny reasons http://www.myspace.com/themajestichigh

Hey...(This is Andi speaking here)
By the way, I just got the Tele bridge Li'l '59 split and installed a switch between the two controls, and all I can say is that it sounds "RIGHT", and wonder why we didn't do it sooner. Both of us being fans of Neil Halstead and the piercing sound of his Rickenbacker through a Roland JC-120 with Slowdive, I do believe this Frankentele is finally going to get its due with some dream pop sparkles (love the bridge, mid position now sounds incredibly chimey), so please don't just hate us just yet!! :D Thanks for listening! Great forum, BTW folks. Cindi & Andi |

(Hmm...how can I truly describe how I feel about such a clearly spiritual song without using expletives?
"See Her Fall"--that, Cindi, goes far beyond shoegazer pop or any other label, codification, or description...it's ethereal. It's spiritual. It's like Radiohead meets King's X, and that doesn't even come close to describing it. That has to be one of the most luscious-sounding recordings I've heard in a long time, if ever. Phenomenal songwriting, phenomenal musicianship, phenomenal production values. You guys should feel extremely proud of this. :D (Just a minor point, but one to show how much I listen to minutiae: That has to be some of the best programmed drumming I've ever heard. I always thought I could program a drum sequencer to sound realistic, but the drums on "See Her Fall" sound wonderfully authentic. Who programmed them? What did they use--a free-standing unit like an Alesis SR-16, or a drum software program?) When you guys record an entire CD, Cindi, please put me at the top of your list to buy a copy--that is, if a label doesn't immediately snatch you guys up and I have to either walk into a record shop and buy a copy or download it from Napster. I'm not kidding--let me know when the CD is completed. Once again, it's been proven that the very best are right here at the TDPRI. Last but not least: Congratulations on your and Andi's nuptials! You should have let us know in advance! Take care, Joel

Many thanks, Joel, from us both.
I remember how you recollected your memories of Lush way back in the 90s, and I'm sure we share many of those very blurry thoughts with similar nostaligia, and we're grateful that someone can share our appreciation for such dizzy music, in a good way *^_^*. Most of the album is supposed to be a journey through some of the more mystic Psalms of David, with a nice emphasis on creation, space and "glory kinda stuff". The tracks are such a mess right now, we're hoping to get enough cash by next Spring to have a friend sort things out for us(i.e. mix) along the vibes of the shoegaze era, so we'll keep you and others posted! Neat to hear the KingsX/Radiohead reference, Andi calls See Her Fall "My Bloody Valentine covering Roxy Music's More Than This"(!) I giggle just thinking about it, really. I think the drums were from the Peter Erkstine(sp?) sample collection for Akai we occasionally use(via Emu E5000), but we'll hopefully be running all of our MIDI hits through Toontracks' massive Drums From Hell, which we decided to put the next paycheck into, rather than Hello Kitty/Squier '51 pair we have been thinking about messing with. ^o^ Ugg, if the discouraging word hasn't hit Nashville yet, I'm sure some are at least talking about. My poor session drummer friends and others here are already crinching at the power of this thing, it just may be the end...Although we are looking forward to getting it: http://www.toontrack.com/superior.shtml At any rate, many thanks again! |

Wannadies: You And Me Song comes to mind immediately. I really liked the Ric (the Byrds' influence is obvious), could take more of that. ;) It's crying out for a real drummer!
Awesome recording (even if it's a bit thick sounding) and good song, keep it going. |

The Majestic High rules! I love the guitar sounds and the vocal harmonies. This is really great stuff.

Everything about both those songs sounds really beautiful, particularly "See Her Fall". Have you actually released anything?
Since you mentioned them, I saw Lush - briefly - in 1994 when I was 16. The guitarist stomped off after two songs because he couldn't get his Tele to stay in tune. Thanks for turning me on to Toontracks, I think I may be £165.00 poorer soon - gonna go for the Custom and Vintage set. |
