"The taste of sweet desire"

Doe Maar (Their name means something like "Go Ahead" or "Just do it") has always been and will always be one of my all time favorite bands. I have since seen them play live and met the members at different occasions. The Biggest Hit Doe Maar ever had was a song called "Sinds een dag of twee" (Within a day or two) which is a song about the crazy feeling about falling in love again.

Doe Maar performing "Sinds een dag of twee" live at the "No nukes" festival in 1982

Ten years ago a tribute album was released called "Trillend op mijn benen" (Shaking in my shoes) which is a lyric from "sinds een dag of twee" on which several dutch acts covered their favorite Doe Maar songs. The most creative one was done by The Prodical Sons who covered "Sinds een dag of twee" in English. I always wondered how that song would sound if you took the English lyrics and performed them with the original Doe Maar music.

So to find out, I recorded this version, it has the original Doe Maar melody and the lyrics of the Prodical Sons. As usual, I recorded everything myself here, the instruments used were my Five string Knooren bass, my Roland Gr-33 guitar synthesizer module and my Squier Stratocaster "the Veteran" which carries the GK2 synth pickup, my self made telecaster and my Yamaha PSR 250 keyboard, everything was recorded using my Line6 UX2 and Ableton live 7.

I hope you people like my version.

Doe Maar is one of the best bands The Netherlands ever had. Great musicianship as well, I really don't get how Henny Vrienten, bass player and singer, sang those songs at the same time playing pretty intricate bass lines that were rhythmically different. Excellent stuff.

Sadly enough the band was way overhyped, which sort of directed the attention away from the fact that the songs were really good. Also it took its toll on the members of Doe Maar; one of the drummers died of an overdose if I recall correctly.

I didn't know this english version existed, thanks for posting Blazer!

Nope All three Drummers that Doe Maar used to have (Carel Copier, Renee Van Collum and Jan Peinenburg) are still alive. What you're referring to is that Renee Van Collum got very heavily addicted to Heroin, he had to quit the band or otherwise he wouldn't have survived it. The song "heroine" (Heroin) is about Renee's addiction.

After Doe Maar (and kicking off drugs) Van Collum played with Spargo (Bassplayer Henny Vrienten said about this "He plays with a disco combo but he'll get by eventually.") and Sjako and he also appeared on Doe Maar's return album "Klaar"
