Say What (SRV cover)

For a few weeks now, I've been messin' around with some mods to my reissue VOX v847 wah pedal. I pretty much gutted the thing, installing carbon comp resistors, and changing some of the stock values. I replaced the original capacitors, with metal film caps.
It's now wired to true bypass. Installed an Area51 Icar pot, and I changed out the stock transistors. The inductor is a "Whipple".

So to give 'er a go, i found this SRV backing track, to his song "Say What". The backing track cuts off at the end, so I apologize, for the abrupt ending.
i recorded it using my Strat into...
-Vox wah
-Boss CS-3 (Monte Allums mod)
-ProCo RAT
-Blues Jr.

If you give it a listen, Thanks..!!!

Thanks pj..!!

The Blues Jr., I pulled out the 12AX7 preamp tube, and put in a 12AY7. The speaker is an Eminence Texas Heat. I mic'd the amp with a Shure SM57, and a Rode K2. The 57 went into a Universal Audio 2-610, and the K2 into a Grace 101. The pre's went into Summit Audio TLA-50 compressors, into an Apogee Rosetta 200 A/D converter. A MOTU 2408mkII, passed the signals into the computer, running Digital Performer. i added some stereo reverb, from an Alesis MidiVerb 4.
To even the mix out, I used a TC Electronics Master X3 plug-in.

Thanks, again pj..!!!

Sure thing, mojo..!!

The Icar pot, and the Carling DPDT switch, I got from Area 51. The wiring of the switch, for true bypass, is here....http://www.fulltone.com/v847.html

The stock inductor, was replaced with a Whipple halo inductor.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=300348695559

For the resistors, I replace them all with carbon comp resistors. The stock values I changed were:

33K to 56K This gives the pedal more of a "vocal' quality.

510ohm to 390ohm Because of the true bypass mod, the pedal looses a bit of volume. The 390ohm, brings the pedal back to unity, with a bit more gain, and adds a bit more bass.

1.5K to 2.2K Adds more mid range.

The stock .01uf, and .22uf capacitors, were replaced with Mylar metal film caps. Same values.
And the stock MSPA18 transistors, were replaced with Central Semiconductor 2N5172's. I got all these parts, from Mouser Electronics. Everything all together, was about $55.00, without shipping, totaled in.

Here's a few links, I used for info:

http://www.home-wrecker.com/wahmods.html

http://www.wah-wah.co.uk/

Take care mojo..!!!

Wow that sounds great, and that wah has a nice, thick, and throaty. Awesome! BTW, thanks for not sounding like SRV. Nice job!

Nicely done man. I remember sitting in the drive through of a Mcdonald's when Live Alive had come out and SRV was being interviewed on KLBJ here in Austin. He mentioned that he had used two wahs in series and played sitting down running both wahs simoultaneously. Your wah has that depth m8.

Thanks JL..!!
Yeah, I remember reading, that SRV used two wahs. I think one of them, he got from Jimmie, that he got from Hendrix. Sometimes, older brothers are cool..!!
