Time to butcher the Eagles' Peaceful Easy Feeling
http://www.box.net/shared/lf273stlx3
I'm still having problems with my vocal pitch. When I'm singing the notes I can tell they're off by a few cents (or a bunch) but I can really change it. Then I listen to the playback and it sounds like this. Sigh. But there's a Tele and a Pedal Steel Solo! Enjoy the MIDI drums too.

You'll notice that I didn't sing the line wrong though.
Wwhen I was typing in the song title I added an extra 's'. In my copy n' pasting it the 's' managed to hang around. Can't change it now that it's uploaded.

GBent, that is 'way cool! I'm curious about the backstory, though I wouldn't want to hijack Lerb's thread to hear it.
I have papers like that lying all over the place, complete with notes for repair projects. The ONLY one that's ever made it into an actual song so far, though, oddly enough, is "Spoonful of Truth," whose idea I lifted from something you said on a thread a while back, about whether country was dead or not. I worked that one up for a collection of originals from forum members on another forum. I save the rest for someday. Oops, hijacked it anyway. I'll go listen to your song now, Lerb.

well I would say it was pretty good !
You have all of the elements correct and in the right places , which, many seasoned players do not. Eagles tunes are so identifiable that these are tunes that when we play them we play them close, as you have done. I have played with many many players who think they know Eagles tunes and wing them and they end up train wrecks. When you are on the bandstand playing PEF, everyone in the audience is expecting the guitar solo , this is one you can't just fake, well, yes you can, but it will be understood that it is a jam and not a cover. You played it just fine, identifiable. Your singing is fine but it does it sounds like you are reading the lyrics while singing, once you know the song it will come out different, good job. This is a tune I work on all of the time , always looking for a new twist but yet trying to leave the identity of the original song in tact. good job, let's hear some more. Are you also playing the Steel phrases? t please visit me at www.tprior.com

I'm really glad that the singing came out as well as it did. I'm actually playing the Pedal Steel Guitar on this incase you didn't know, along with everything else. All done by me. Thanks all!

Lerb, nice work all around - I especially like the tele solo. I think that you should get rid of the vocal processing, though. The slight delay is causing a phase shift which weakens the impact of your voice. I know you are a bit self-conscious about your pitch, but the effect(s) you are using actually accentuates the few "pitchy" places that I can hear. If you want to smooth out those notes, I'd recommend some light reverb.

I think I was using a Fender Champ amp model with a slight chorus and 450ms delay for the vocals! haha Whenever I get my crap together and get over being sick I'll record my vocals.

Lerb- I, too, really enjoyed your Peaceful Easy Feelin.
I was half hoping to hear someone else actually mangle it - 'cuz me and my garage band really really have on several occasions.... but.... as stated by others, yours is solid. Identifiable, and tasteful. Seems to me, you've got an eye and an ear for the quality stuff, at the heart of a tune. You continue to be an inspiration to old hacks like me! |

Nice playing, Lerb. You and some of these guys are talking about the effects added to the vocals. Is that what kind of sounds like ocean waves (or something "watery") that I hear - or is that sound just happening on my end with my computer? Again, I thought it was great. Love that steel guitar.

Whatever the case (haha, I know nothing!), the speed at which I set the chorus allows cycle slowly, which probably creates the ocean wave effect. I also added some chorus to the acoustic guitar. I'm not much a fan of effects, but I think they add a nice vibe to the song in this case. So no, I don't think it's your computer. Thanks

Some here have talked of doing the recording clean then adding effect elements in post recording.
I guess that way one could save a solid effort and not have to throw out an excellent recording...or maybe cover up some slight imperfection. heehee I listened twice by the way. :] Tahnks for a cool recording to surf the TDPRI on a Sunday Morning...lol My wife likes to hear this sang to her...haha |

Wow !!!! Great job....you're puttin' in the work and it shows...if you're tryin' to really learn the song as recorded you should pay attention to your phrasing in the verses....a little room for improvement there...
Very impressed.....PA should be proud....:~)) |
