Mama Tried

I just remembered that I hadn't actually shown this to you guys.

It's a little vid of my drummer Curtis and I covering Haggard's "Mama Tried".

This is all directly into the camera, so it's raw and unbalanced.

I might also add that I didn't actually know how to play the solos or licks to the song at that time, so I improvised as best I could.

Oh and this was Curtis' 2nd or 3rd time behind a drum set. Gotta love Rock Band!

Sounds great. I like raw and unbalanced. Remember, the whole outlaw country scene started with Willies "raw and unbalanced" Red Headed Stranger album. Keep it up.

The intro is fairly easy, but the break is kinda tough. I'll see if I can't tab it out.

This is cool...kind of like "The White Stripes do Merle."

Beautiful guitar and great playing - Curtis has good time, too, which is the most important thing for a drummer.

Do you mean Merle's or my version?

I now play it like Roy (well, or try to, only I'm a bit better at it than I was when I recorded this).

I'll post it in the tab forum ASAP (unless Colt beats me to it).

Nice!

You might enjoy listening to JG's take on Mama Tried from the Skull & Roses album aka The Grateful Dead.

Now I have a serious earworm...

Do you have another mic and possibly an acoustic/keyboard amp? Then you could get up closer to the mic and still have a mic picking up the whole mix. Great playing, both of you.

Just so there's no confusion, the microphone you see isn't live. It was just acoustic drums, amplified guitar, and my non-miked voiced straight into the camera.

Maybe someday I'll record it...

Thank you.
