Folsom Prison Bluestrumental

Hi everybody! Please go to www.myspace.com/taylornauta and check out my "Folsom Prison Bluestrumental" song on there. Let me know what you think! Just keep in mind that it was done all in one take on a pretty primitive recorder. A buddy of mine is playing rythm and I'm playing lead. Listen to the whole thing and let me know what ya think.

Ok, I listened to the Folsom Prison Bluestrumental. Here are my thoughts
1) If that is a recording on a primitive recorder, if you ever get to some good recording equipment, it will be dynamite.
2) You can play the everliving out of your tele.
3) Very imaginative.
4) I really like the song. Heck of a showcase for your talent
5) Outside of a couple of licks, I had no clue as to why this is named after the Folsom Prison Blues. If I didn't have the name of the song, I would have thought that you just borrowed a couple of Folsom Prison licks. Not a critique, I was just confused.

Dude, you're a dynamite player.

great playing !!! Scooterazz has an excellent point, though ... if you call it Folsom Prison Blues or any standard for that pointi, you need to play "or quote" the actual melody of the song very plainly for listeners to reference a few times during the song(ala Duane Eddy or the Ventures) then go off and play ... the old be-bop jazz players did this (Coltrane, Charlie Parker) ... a few bars of "the head" then tear it up for a while and then bring it back to to the melody ... listen to Danny Gatton on an old jazz tune ... keep up the good work !!!

Seems to me that you are laying down some real tracks now. I'd be proud to be able to lay dow tracks that sound as good as yours, both from a guitar and recording standpoints.

Really? That makes me feel pretty good! Lol, these recordings were done with nothing more than me and a buddy plugged into the SAME amp(a blues deville), a mic in-front of the amp, and his laptop. That's all. We just played it live and recorded it with a very old version of Garage Band. I'm excited to get some real recording stuff so I can actually lay down some nice tracks, mix em, master em, and have something good to put on myspace and show people. I thought I'd get butchered when I posted those rough tracks up there, honestly. Thanks for the compliments!

Thank you! And welcome to TDPRI! Where are you at in Baton Rouge? I'll be in Baton Rouge all this week, visiting family.

No, I don't have a band here in Lafayette yet. I need to find a drummer. I had a great band in Nashville, but now that I've moved back home to Louisiana I'm gonna have to dig up some new bandmembers. And yeah, that recording was done on an old version of Garage Band. You've got a good ear, man.

Flippin' sweet. I am getting close to my first tele--my son's building the body now, and the parts are almost all in--and I hope to learn to use it pickin' chickens! Listening to players like you makes me painfully aware of how far I have to go; it amazes me how much better I can get and still suck.

Your guitar is relicked the long way, I'd guess. Way to go.
