audition track....
An acquaintance of mine (who I've backed up before) is forming some people to do some recording and suggested me to some people who I don't know and they requested an 'audition' mp3... (we're doing this at a distance)...
Anyway, this is a singer songwriter type thing... and they need 'soulful guitar parts that spice up the song'... this is what I chose to send them... I'm so old I don't ever worry too much if I don't get asked to do it... and it is representative of my playing... but, what do you think? bent playin'

Great tones and phrasing. Sounds like the 1st half of the song is Tele rhythm, switched to bridge in 2nd half ending with tremolo? The verses have an "I Shall Be Released" vibe.
I like how you added the Albert/SRV type bend phrase starting at about 0:27 to sort of break up and add variety to the smooth Dickie Betts type of soloing played up to that point. I have one suggestion. On that phrase starting 0:27, maybe bend the third note a little bit sharper. The flatted bend sounds a little jarring to my ears with the song going from Dmaj. back to Gmaj. IMO. I hope you'll take that as bit of constructive criticism because I think what you've done is spot on. Good luck and break a leg! |

Thanks Fellas! and thanks Scatman for the tips... I'll go back and tweak it (I may just go in with melodyne and adjust it) ... I appreciate any comments and suggestions...
I got some feedback from the acquaintance... she 'loves it' and thinks they will too... we'll see...

thanks again...
Colt, it is my mij thinline with nocasters direct to my toneport (and using the toneport effects and amp sims) into logic. I also use my dano baritone at the very end and my hipshot. The rest of the music is one of my jam tracks that I make using loops and synths I've got in the home studio (I used one of the tracks from an old thread of mine)... pretty good workflow.. I probably made 10 passes at the track and then picked the parts I liked.

I'm pretty lazy so I start every thing in Garageband... then once I've got whatever loops together or my scratch tracks together... I go into Logic and start cutting and cleaning... recently, I got melodyne and now I can go into melodyne and fix anything that is wrong... then, because I'm lazy, I usually put the file back into garageband and use the normalizing software in it (all automated) and run it down to .mp3... done... this track took about 2 hours start to finish... now tonight, provided that I am either happy or depressed after the Cal football game, I'll go out and try to fix the part scatman referenced earlier... then I'll just pop it back into garageband and output it again...
I am just suffering from 3 straight weeks of overwork (it will pay off in about 3 weeks) and so I'm kind of tired and weary... I have a new amp in the back seat of my car and it hasn't moved today because I'm busy with work junk... I'M TIRED OF WORK AND WANT TO PLAY MY TELE! hey, I was gonna pm you this.. but, I have a song I wrote, if I send it to you will you sing it? you can say no, but man, I'd love to hear you sing it. note to self: more cowbell for TDOT.

Randy,
I'd gladly have ya on any track I was workin' on! Heck, I'd even go back to playin' bass, just to give ya more room...VERY nice. Scott

Tasty indeed. I don't think I've ever heard any of your playing before - other than the backing tracks you had posted. I think you've got the "soulful guitar parts that spice up the song" thing nailed. I am impressed.
