Heart Full of Soul
Somebody just sent me this link... it's from about 20 years ago, on the Tonight Show, with my old band.
I was using a really early gtr-to-midi pickup on my strat, The Cellos and Choir are coming of an Ensonq Mirage sampler (!). Funny.

Very cool. I've always though Chris Isasc had a great voice, and a pretty good sense of humor. Your work on that was slick. How long did you play with Chris? I'm assuming, by your handle, you were playing on Wicked Game.

Jimmy... I loved that whole album... I wish you'd make a long thread or post an article on recording those songs... I still think "Lie To Me" is just an awesome study in developing tension and release.. you wailed on that song!
I'd love to hear details, tips and tricks... My brother and I saw you with Chris probably 5-8 times... Just a great, great recording and live band.

Hey, Thanks everyone-
Quote:
That being said...the guitar part on Lie to Me' is pretty much based on the same riff all the way through- it's just played slight differently to counterpoint what the voice is doing, and to make a 'verse', 'chorus' etc. The song was in g minor, and I used a capo so I could play it as if in e minor and have some 'open' strings to use. That also forced me to invert the second chord in the pattern- going up instead of down, and I think that's where the basic riff came from, if that makes sense. Thanks again- Jw |

In fact this (crappy) surf instrumental version of it I did a couple years ago was basically nicked from your version.
Edit: removed...since I didn't pay ASCAP or BMI. PM me if you want to hear it.

Cool version (I heard it before you took it down), never thought of it as an instrumental, but it works- thanks-

Love that. My "old band." That's like my favorite quote from George Harrison during the T Wilburys days. "I like being able to write songs with other people. I didn't get to do that with my previous band." Really George. What band would that have been? Love Isaak and all his band members. Saw him two years ago at Wolf Trap. Very nice show. |
