NAMM 08 News!

The "Intrepid Reporter" Returns from NAMM

I saw LOTS of cool stuff, and of course hung out with my buddy, Gary Hoey, and saw Slash, Joe Satriani, and Kenny G..

One of the cool things is you can now instantly make your guitar into an aged relic, or give it a variety of different looks!

It seems that NAMM's big push is to interest the non players.
As shown by this huge poster, that seems to be their main thrust right now.

This theme was carried throughout the many booths I visited. Many of them featured beginner programs, and even Kenny G unveiled new instruments that targeted new, or novice player.

I can tell you one thing, Fender is still going all out on the Telecaster and the Esquire!

I hear the Kenny G instruments play only one note but play it for a real long time!

While wandering through the G&L booth, I was surprised and happy to see that are using a more traditional pickguard and bridge design for their ASAT models.

Very good!! I think it is important for the future of the industry.

It's heartwarming to have children and teenagers playing REAL instruments instead of video games.

I agree, but "Guitar Hero" is really taking off. I think a lot of the vendors view it as a starting point to transition into real playing.

Here is Peavey's new Guitar Hero controller. I'm sure they feel it is just one more step to playing the real thing.

Photo-Thanks so much for the pictures. For those of us who can't be there it is really entertaining. I think the Keely Comp does have a reference. There is a huge reference with dunlops disease in the background.
Those are some beauuuuutifuullllll guitars. Loved the green strat.
Thanks again.

Just a couple of questions. What's the deal with the Egyptian guitars? Who was the person in the hat and shades? I kind of liked the M-60.

Thanks for the photo coverage for those of us unable to attend.

Be interesting to see what the Keeley pickups are like.

Whoa! What a great spread. Thanks for all those wonderful shots. A whole lot of creativity - even if some of it is fugly! (One person's fugly is...h*ll, I dunno, maybe fugly is as fugly does).

Thanks for that great posting!!!

The Egyptian guitars are just custom guitars made by Johnson Custom Guitars. Just trying to be different, I suspect.

The guy in the hat and shades, Joe Satriani.

M-60? So that is what that thing is!

Thank you all for your support and interest, and to Paul for sending me!

So, what were the make of the instruments being pushed by Kenny G? Do you have any details?
