Custom Fender Tele for Idol Winner (from Fender News)
Custom Fender Tele for Idol Winner
Thousands cheered American Idol finalist Jordin Sparks during a May 11 hometown appearance at a Glendale, Ariz., mall at which the golden-voiced
17-year-old was presented with a custom Telecaster® guitar bearing her likeness.
More than 5,000 adoring fans braved 106-degree heat that afternoon to catch a glimpse of Sparks, who became one of Idol’s three finalists earlier in May. Well-wishers joining Sparks onstage included Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs, hockey great and Phoenix Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart and the Phoenix Suns Gorilla.
Scruggs and Fender’s Jason Farrell presented Sparks with the guitar, an American Series Telecaster that features the image of Sparks and “star” graphics from the wildly popular singer’s website on the instrument’s upper body flank.
“Thank you—it’s beautiful!” said Sparks, who is currently taking guitar lessons.
