Howdy!

I stumbled onto this forum by accident, but I have to admit after reading some of the posts that I'm intrigued!

I have an '87 Squier Tele, and though I've strayed away from time to time I always end up coming back to it. Kind of a comfort zone thing, and no other guitar comes close to that sound.

Any suggestions on a second Tele? The new Squiers are OK, but none of the recent ones have the vibe of my '87.

Welcome aboard.

You did not mention what your budget is...so recommendations are difficult...

the Classic 50s and Classic 60s guitars get very nice reviews here.

Welcome. This is THE place for real Telecaster information.

As was mentioned earlier, budget comes into play. But generally speaking, the Standard Telecasters coming out of the Mexico factory are remarkable values. I love my 2003 sunburst, which is loaded with Bill Lawrence noiseless pickups.

In that case, I don't know how you can beat a MIM Tele. If you've got $500 in the budget, that would leave you some money for customization of, for instance, pickups and bridge. But you won't necessarily have to do any mods. The current line of MIM Standards is pretty sweet right out of the box.

Here's what would help at Lot w/ your question, and to others that post similar questions...give us some Help here!...What kind of Music to you play?...what kind of Neck do you prefer?...slim ? Fat? Vintage radius? Flatter radius ?...What is the other 75% of the equation?....IE yer Amp ?...all these things would get you a lot more useful responses I would think ?

Yep, more info would probably help.

I'm primarily a twanger, growing up listening to and playing classic country. I also like Rock, anything from Tom Petty to Van Halen. I keep thinking I need to get into jazz/swing, use the neck pickup more.

As far as fingerboard radius I'm not sure - whatever my Squire is. Definitely maple neck over rosewood. I was a solid state amp snob for years due to trouble with tubes, most recently a Tech 21 Trademark 60. I just purchased a Vox AC15CC1, looking for a John Jorgensen/Desert Rose Band-Brad Paisley sort of sound.

Years ago I played a Squire that was a twin to mine that felt pretty good, but recently I bought a newer Squire Tele Custom with P90's that just left me cold, didn't "feel" right. My son made off with that one. I've played some of the MIM's but walked away with the same feeling.

I suspect the magic in my Squire is just the years and hours spent playing it and that will only happen with another guitar after time. I probably need to check out another MIM....I have to travel to do that because our local store sucks.
