newbie seeking tele wisdom

I am a total newbie to teles and electric guitar in general, and was looking for some sage advice in attempting to choose a guitar. I love the look and sound of teles and was thinking of trying to pick one up. I am on an extremely low budget less than $200 and was looking for opinions as to what my best options would be. I am mainly interested in playing alt-rock/psych rock a la Jonny Greenwood. I would love to get a mim standard tele, but I am pretty sure those are out of my price range. I lucked out and already have what I believe to be a decent amp a '70 fender musicmaster bass tube amp. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks

James

The affinity is a good suggestion, but my personal favorite is the Squier Standard Telecaster. It is a penny under your budget at the big online retailers and is a very nice guitar. My only Tele at the moment is a Squier Standard and it's a terrific guitar.

Here is the Standard on Squier's web page: http://www.squierguitars.com/product...tno=0321200537

Welcome to the world of Teles.

The sound and playablity will be EXCELLENT, and there are a ton of us here that own and play Squiers who are VERY happy with them, and who also own the higher-priced MIM Standards.

They are REAL instruments, good stuff, and unbelievably worth the money.

Except for that Squire logo which drives us all nuts.

I have an Antique Burst but they are getting hard to find. You might call Sweetwater on this one and see what they say on availability. It is in your budget and is a good choice as well.

Sandpaper, a block of wood and some Deft clear will solve that issue.
