Ash tray question

My son wanted to see what the ashtray looked like on my AV52RI. How do you put it on? It doesn't really just clip on as far as I can tell...

Hi, Cheesehead. It doesn't slide on parallel to the body. Rather, you put the closed end tight against the bridge back ridge, with the open lip high, and bring it down like an alligator's jaw. Check for good placement,

Thanks! I told my son that if I posted something on TDPRI I'd have a response within ten minutes, and I was right. What a great forum!

WARNING...do NOT leave that bridge cover on for a long period of time.
The danger is that you may get to like the way you can rest your palm on it while playing. If this happens you may just leave it on all the time and this may bring ridicule from some folks. Not from me, as I wont play without it but it can happen. You have been warned.....

Maybe a dumb, but what is the cover for? other than being a cover? Is it just something cosmetic Fender designed at the time? I've never seen anyone play with the cover on, so?

Didn't work. Not a biggie. I'm not going to keep it on. My son just wanted to see what it would look like, which he did with me holding it in place.

I searched the forum and somewhere someone said if the ashtray doesn't fit, it might need to be pinched. If I smoked, it would become an ashtray!
