Hi, Cheesehead. It doesn't slide on parallel to the body. Rather, you put the closed end tight against the bridge back ridge, with the open lip high, and bring it down like an alligator's jaw. Check for good placement,

WARNING...do NOT leave that bridge cover on for a long period of time.
The danger is that you may get to like the way you can rest your palm on it while playing. If this happens you may just leave it on all the time and this may bring ridicule from some folks. Not from me, as I wont play without it but it can happen. You have been warned..... |

I searched the forum and somewhere someone said if the ashtray doesn't fit, it might need to be pinched. If I smoked, it would become an ashtray!
