Not sure if I am going to stain or solid......And I am not set on what pickups to put in.....The Custom/Deluxes don't get a whole lot of love around here..I will amber the neck for sure.....The Wilkinson is black and my staggered Kluson style tuners are brushed chrome....Electro-socket is aluminum....Its kinda a mis-match of parts....Olive Drab Green stain would be fitting.Should be under 6.5 pounds which is cool.....Suggestions on color...And pickups...A little spank in the bridge is o.k. with me but the neck I would like something warm-creamy P-90ish...And the 2 should balance somewhat....Suggestions would be very much welcome!!

Very nice, indeed! I favor natural finishes ... it'd be a shame to cover that nice pine!
As to pickups, GFS offers a "Vintage Split" HB that would capture the neck position look - I haven't heard one, but I've had very good luck personally with GFS pickups. Here's the link: http://store.guitarfetish.com/visphuclfest.html There must be a thousand bridge pickups you could choose to go with it, but staying with GFS, something like this might do the trick: http://store.guitarfetish.com/re19hotalteb.html I have zero affiliation with GFS, but like I said, I've had very good luck with their stuff, and I've spent too much on fancy named pickups that don't deliver any better than anything else. You sure couldn't go wrong with some Bill Lawrence pickups, either, though!

OOOH !!! Very sweet but it would look so much better with a black bridge.
Hey,each his own.....I just wanted some different options and really wanted to piece together my own...If you called and wanted to order one up with what I was looking for it would be a hassle..... and way to expensive.I like the "Big head stock" on these bodies but wanted top-loader options as well....Its either a Lollar Imperial in the neck and a special in the Bridge..Or a Dimarzio EJ custom in the neck and a SD Five-Two in the bridge. Now where can I get some Olive Drab green stain? |

Just a little different....I started to have Creston Lea build me one..but with the kids and the dog etc....I couldn't come up with the scratch. The guy builds some butes,man...but I had the neck.Ordered up a GuitarMill body-Thanks Mario!!Pickguardian pickguard.Without pickups and wireing harness its right at 5 pounds...Should be a fun guitar..Not what everyone else has or would want.

Thanks for the kind words....I went ahead and lined everything up-drilled and installed neck and tuners...Got bridge lined up and installed.Strung it up and set intonation...action....It rings out really good...I think I will let it settle in a little with strings on it.This will get me in the ballpark after I finish painting and hopefully keep me from violating it too much putting it back together..Pine is fairly soft so it gonna show honest wear and tear....COOL !!!
Figuring out what pickups and stain/color to go with...I bought one of those Frankenstien laser engraved neck plates..Kinda goofey, but the kids are crazy about that stuff and I am too.It needs to be green I guess. |

With that body grain, you definitely got for a translucent finish. I think a butterscotch or white blonde would be a cool traditional look, a walnut stain would give it the 70's mojo, but I always thought it would be sweet to see an ebony stained 70's tele, especially since you have black hardware.

![]() I haven't got to play it much. The kid hardly ever puts it down. What I have played it,just through a small practice amp, they seem pretty good.I was wanting to take it to a gig and give it a workout but he won't let me Great looking guitar by the way.You definitely don't want to cover up that gorgeous grain

That thinline firecaster is very nice indeed.....
I am gonna stain it....but "traditional" is not what I want on this one...At least not as far as finish. No flames or Pinup girls...Rat Rod pinstripes are cool but are everywhere you look.Green would be cool and something I could do...I think a burst- orange to purple on the edges would be different but not something I have the ability to do or would pay to farm it out.... I have been reading up on the water based Minwax stains with a clear..should most likely go that route.I had placed a order with MR.Lester at ReRanch..but I re-did my Vintage Guitar subscription online and they got hacked and called me and said to call my bank asap..So they put a hold on everything so I need to re-order tomarrow so I can at least get the neck started. |

The finish on the Fircaster is just some amber shellac,if I remember,3 coats and then Minwax wipe-on poly.We just kept putting on coats of shellac until we got it to the color he wanted.Waited a week for it to cure, and then started with the poly. There is 28 coats of wipe-on on this one
