Where can I get a 62 ri Tele?
Im looking to buy a 62 ri Japan tele (the black one with double white binding), but im striking out as far as ebay is concerned.
Do they still make these? Can I get them domestically? I know certain shops no longer ship to the US (and to be honest im havnig trouble navigating some of the japan shops) What would be a market value price for this guitar oh, and any comments about this model thank you! |

Depending on what you're looking for...
... if its a stock MIJ '62, or if you just want a double bound, you can buy it in pieces. There are several outlets on eBay that sell '62 bodies, loaded and unloaded. I believe the loaded bodies come with TX special pups. I don't know much about the factory MIJ '62s, but I think its safe to assume they probably don't come with Texas specials.
Anyway, you could buy a body separately and slap any kind of tele neck you want on there. Check it out. I think that's the direction I'm headed when I eventually get a double bound. I like Maple boards, and therefore don't have any factory options for double bound w/ maple. |

hereīs some :
http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/fender/...telecaster.htm (i recently bought the 62-72 , it was ordered and received brand new, with certification and gigbag, by previous owner 1 month earlier from ishibashi. It is vintage white - http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/fender/...2_72us_vwh.jpg . Weighs 3.7 kg. Itīs finish is very high quality, and neck is super comfortable to play. The things i changed was the original steel saddles to brass compensated ones, removed the excess feedback from bridge, and plan to do maybe something with the treble bleed , maybe "50-s mod") |

I was going to build a project guitar, that I had designed a couple of months ago, I was going to build from Warmoth and everything... and the 62 *** tele body is exactly what I wanted. but 800 seems expensive for a japanese tele, but the Warmoth parts and time would be the same (and no resale value) if not much greater. I saw someone with american teles for like 749 or something on the harmony central forums this morning. today had been a really crappy day btw. **edit** here is the link for the tele, seems like a good price. http://umanovguitars.com/store/detai...9&path=600,179 It doesnt register as 7XX until you are ready to check out, its still 9XX in the cart or whatever. Im really freaking tempted to buy one. I wish they had a black with white binding, or any binding in the US. oh well, here is the thread where I saw this deal http://acapella.harmony-central.com/...846353&page=23 Has anyone delt with this site before? The Umanov one? |

Ishibashi can/will still sell pre owned - used ones outside of Japan.
Visit their site and look for this "used" instrument area. I saw a '62 there a few weeks back. You can also email there, ask about the one you want and see if they will keep you on file should one become available. BTW The MIJ ones through '95 were basswood. '96 MIJ went to Alder w/USA TX special pickups. '97 on became CIJ or "Crafted in Japan". Wood and pickups remained same as '96 and continue to present.

Try the piece meal approach
You can get the Allparts Double Bound Body in Alder for $299. And you can get any color you like, as long as it's Sunburst. FYI, my body is stunningly beautiful and MIJ. However, my one complaint is it's heavy - at 5 #s, 3oz.
An allparts TRO cost between $120 - $190 depending if you want it finished in Nitro or unfinished. Then you can pick an pup, electronics, tuners you want.

there was a real nice 62 in the U-Box this week...but 3 tone burst. it was from a limited run and had upgraded electronics and a 2 piece center joined body. they can do it right when they want to.
from day one, Fender Japan used ash, alder, sen and basswood for their guitars...I own some. I`ve read they exported mainly basswood but that didn`t come from the company, just stuff I`ve read on line at various sites...may be true...they kept the good stuff at home and sold the basswood to the gaijins.
