Top Veneer

Saw this one on eBay, an early MIM James Burton tele, with see through blond ash veneer on top, but the opaque blond finish on the top edges makes it look like a reverse burst. I assume they did this to allow see through blonde on the top, but to hide evidence of the veneer top. I've seen this done on mid 90's MIM Tele Specials too.

I've, actually only seen the MIM James Burton in Candy Apple Red. That one appears to have the veneer only on the front ........... the back looks like it's painted a solid color. The MIM Telecaster Specials from the mid-nineties were done in a similar manner.
