That's what I was thinking. Applying by hand does seem to keep things under control.

Well, after roughly 20 coats of lacquer, and 2 hours of sanding and polishing, the twin is coming along - the older twin is done. I'm having a blast playing it.

Anyway, these things are tough to get pics of. It seems to mess with the camera.

The tiger stripes come and go depending on the angle you looking at it.

Sorry about the beer can - it was just something handy that I could use for a reflection

With a little luck, both of the guitars should be done by the end of the weekend.

That finish is not deep enough. Keep polishing!

I'd bet with an electron microscope, we could see a tiny imperfection.

Blue guitars sound faster.

Looks fantastic! Would love some more information on how you did the staining and the burst. I'd love to try that.

Check out this link. I have subscribed to Fine Woodworking magazine for ages. A month or so ago they had a finishing article about aniline dies - Great timing for me.

I don't know if it will do anything, but it is already bought and paid for, do I used the copper foil tape for shielding.

Then, when trying to set the bridge, I discovered that the bridge pickup rout was off. I had forgotten, but someone had warned me this would happen. This would have been a real problem if I had been planning on a different design. Luckily, it wasn't a big deal. The new roto-tool fixed it quickly. ...then I had to re-tape.

I used the Stew Mac wiring kit (along with a little shrink-tubing) and got her wired up.

Not knowing didly about pickups, I went with the Stew Mac (Wilkinson) pickups they sell for teles. Notice that I also used the foil tape on the under side of the pick guard.

I REALLY don't like this step! I am setting these things after heating them up with the soldering iron. It has real potential for screwing up the back of the guitar. I should have taken the precaution of some how masking / shielding the finish. Oh well, I was lucky and didn't have problem.

It's the final stretch - time to install the tuners.

I didn't stain the headstock at all, but it is kinda cool how the maple has a little tiger stripe to it.

Very Nice! You do good work.

I didn't think I would like the green but that white binding really sets it off.

Thanks for sharing with us!

Good job ....... On the next one if installing the ferrules makes you nervous, just take a manila folder or a piece of thin cardboard and drill a hole in it just bigger than the ferrule and use this for your mask.

Thanks for the suggestion.

That's a great idea. I was mentally hung up on getting the things pressed in (in holes that seemed too small), so I wasn't fucusing on not damaging the lacquer with a hot soldering iron or ferrule - until I was in the middle of the job.

I lucked out.
