My condolences as well, Arlo. You are lucky to have had such a great person in your life. I'm sure he is greatly missed by all of you. Take care...hope to see you soon.

My deepest sympathies are with you and yours.
Losing one's parent is very difficult. Maybe some of the most difficult times we face in life. I lost my pops 12 years ago this April. Still miss him, but I know he's here with me every day.

Arlo, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I wish there was something I could say to help, but words mean so little at this time.
I've been away for the weekend visiting my own parents - my Dad is 84 and was diagnosed as having the early stages of Alzheimers Disease late last year. He's physically quite fit, but his mind is slowly but surely slipping away. There are times when I dread those late night phone calls just in case one of them brings the news that I have prayed I will never hear. It comes to us all one day, and I'm so glad that you enjoyed so many happy years with him. Life can seem so terribly short, but it was better for you to have known him for the time you shared together than to have never known him at all. Take good care of the rest of your family. |

Sorry Arlo, I know it's gotta be hard. My dad is 86, very forgetful, needs help but resists it, stubborn, health problems...but still the same old "good dad". I hope I can be as good as he is should I be lucky enough to live that long.
It is tough watching our folks grow old, but how we miss 'em when they're gone. My best to you, |

Keep the memories of your Dad alive, Arlo. I know how hard it has been for you and your family dealing with all of this.
There is a song by Dave Alvin, titled "The Man In The Bed Isn't Me", and it brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it, and at the same time, it gives me comfort somehow. Dave wrote it about his own Father's death, but it could easily have been written about anyone from that generation who has died, ill in their bed. My own Dad withered away in bed, after suffering a similar fall, which proved to be the end for him. It is a hard thing for any family to go through, and you have my sympathy in this trying time. |

Arlo, a stepfather who both takes his wife's children as his own, and is accepted by the children as their Dad, is truly a great man.

Arlo, though I have not the privilige of knowing you, I sure enjoy and learn from your frequent contributions here. These are the threads we all fear are coming sooner or later but do take comfort in the knowledge, that with reflection comes peace.
May God's grace bestow in plenty for you and your family!
