MIghtyMite Neck-I'm not real happy

Well in Oct I picked up this neck to match my birdseye wood.I knew I wouldn't be using it right away so I did a thread on storing a neck, took the advice.
I grabbed this neck off the LEVEL shelf in my HEATED shop, where there was NOTHING sitting on it,only taken down for the odd pic,to do some final neck fitting.I noticed something weird, how could you not notice

Here it is sitting untouched on the bench

NIce hey

Here it is holding the headstock flat on the bench

Needless to say I am a tad pi$$ed and have e-mailed MightyMite and the guy I got it from.
Well I guess we will see what happens

Sickening. I am sorry to see that.

We'll all be watching to see what Mighty Mite and any intermediaries will say or do.

That is way more twist than any amount of hard finish might have prevented. By a factor of 4, maybe 6, maybe more. I suspect a piece of wood that was not seasoned somehow fell into the production chain. I would fully expect them to make it right.

Man oh man. Bummer. Why are we still making guitars out of trees?

I'm super glad they don't still make everything else out of trees that they used to. Anyone fancy a quick flight in the Spruce 787?

I hope they honour their warranty, Marty. Will there be any issues because it wasn't quarter sawn?

I'd be surprised if MiteyMite or the dealer left you hanging in regards to that neck. Their necks are a pretty good bang for the buck.
I've used several of their necks with excellant success. The only quality issue is the plastic nut but those get swapped out with a Graphtech nut anyway.
Let us know how you make out.

Here was the first response I got!!!!
Quote:
In a HEATED shop is as bad as a COLD shop. These dry out if not stored properly. Regardless of that, this transaction os over 4 months old. What do you expect us to do? If there is an issue you need to let us know within the first seven days. I imagine you checked it out when you got it. It is not our fault you stored it irresponsibly.
Not looking too good

That's a shame.

Don't quite know what you might have done that would be deemed as storing it "irresponsibly."

Somebody, and I don't think it was you, dropped the ball.

Best of luck to you.

I e-mailed him back and asked him how I was suppose to store it?
He was super fast at responding after I forwarded him the invoice #.Not so fast this time.I get the feeling I am going to have some pretty nice figured firewood
We will see if I get any response from Mighty Mite themselves

Mighty Mite as a company is, sad to say, renowned for its non-existent customer relations.

Please let us know the outfit/individual from whom you purchased this item so that we can be sure not to do business with them. I bought a fancy-grade birdseye Mighty Mite neck from Metalshop Music in Florida, and it's a beauty. Hopefully, it will stay that way . . . .

Ask him what the shelf life is on a factory finished poly neck.. Maybe you missed the expiration date...

What a douche bag...

By all means let us have the name, rank and serial number on this vendor, Marty.

Neither neck manufacturer, nor reseller can send ticking time bombs out into the building community and not expect it to come right back to them.

I'm sure you inspected the neck and would not have found anything remarkable within the first seven days.

I ain't buying any necks that are only good for seven days. I wonder if this was the same vendor that was disparaging Allparts for supposedly using non-North American maple with too much moisture. ( Unsupported claim ).

This neck would have pretzled has you applied poly the very day you got it; it just would've taken longer.

If this guy doesn't make good and Mighty Mite fails to terminate him, MM can cross me off as a customer. Every other MM vendor better be on the phone to the source; their prosperity depends on it.

Please tell us what eBay seller this guy is...

I don't EVER want that to happen to anybody.

First, contact eBay and let them know it sat in a temperature regulated room.

I know that the "Seller" did not make the neck and may have been unaware of the moisture content/etc but I did expect a little more customer support

I'm sorry if I missed it but was that a factory finished neck? If so what the hell are you supposed to do with it. If you had installed it on a guitar from the start the outcome would be the same, no?

Sorry that happened to you bud. Sounds like you might the short end of the stick from that "vendor".

As for MM necks, count me as a fan. I put one on my first Tele partscaster. Has held up well. Feels and plays great.

I wish you the best of luck on getting some form of return. My heart goes out to you.

So what is his version of the "correct" way to store it ?
I would contact Mighty Mite directly with the problem.

Store it up the seller's arse for a week or so. Should straighten it right out. If it doesn't, at least you shoved the neck up his arse, so it comes out about even.

Seriously, though. I hope somebody's able to make this right for you. I've seen badly mistreated necks fare better than that.

Well I will give him until tomorrow and see what happens. If I get no satisfaction from him I will post it
I really don't want to make any trouble but I don't think I did anything wrong and I am out the neck for my first actual custom build that I am doing for someone else.

Marty- I live 1/2 hour away from MM main office in Northbrook. If you want to send it here, I'll drive it over there in person...
