Skunk Stripe

Hello All,

Can someone explain the "skunk stripe" strip on the back of some necks.
History, purpose, models, etc.

Once again, Thanks
Steve

Well on the original one-piece maple necks you had to get the truss rod in somehow, so they covered it up with a piece of rosewood. I'm not sure why they still exist on guitars with separate fretboards.

Many American Fenders have the Bi-Flex truss rod. This truss rod is more easily installed from the back side of the neck even if the neck has a rosewood fretboard. In the following thread I explain various truss rods.

Walnut, not rosewood. But you got the idea right!
