New American Standard - which one?

I'm going to place an order for one of the 2008 American Standards in the next day or so. The place I'm going through has a Crimson Red Transparent w/ maple neck and a Blizzard Pearl w/ rosewood neck. Unfortunately, I'm not able to try them out in person. I love the look of the red (I think it's cool they're using a black pickguard on the ash models) but that one weighs 9 pounds, I don't have a lot of experience w/ a lot of different Tele's, from what I've read here, 9 lbs. is a little on the heavy side. The Blizzard Pearl weighs 8.2 pounds, it's also 100 bucks cheaper. I wish I could try 'em out but I won't be able to do that and I want this to be a keeper. I'm torn between the 2. Any feedback on which one I should get? Thanks.

Hi,

two weeks ago I went to the store to purchase one of the new American Standard Ash Teles. I tested 3 of them and compared them with a Baja (mexican made but great reviews everywhere in the net) and a 52 American Vintage Guitar.

Well, the Baja sound better than any of the 3 AS Ash Teles. I could not decide if the 52 sounded better than the Baja. Both guitar had their advantages soundwise. The 52 had a lighter body and the nitro-finish looks a bit better (but makes problems when swetting on stage), but it is 3 times the price of the Baja. So I took the Baja home.

I've just ordered a Bumblebee Tone-Cap, a treble-bleed-cap, copperfoil for shielding and a SKB Case for the new baby...

i have the new olympic white with rosewood neck.comes with a good case.paid
980.00 for it.killer sound.

well he knocked a hundred bucks off it.i bought a few accessories with it also.
real nice and better made then past american std.i owned many before,you will
be happy with whatever color you like.

Thanks for the feedback. I do love the look of the Crimson Red but I think I'm leaning towards the Blizzard Pearl b/c it's lighter and 100 bucks cheaper. I also think I'd prefer the rosewood neck (but I'd be cool w/ maple). I'm also thinking if I were to ever get a 2nd one, I'd want a natural ash body w/ a humbucker in the neck position (I'm kind of a Keith Richards nut, though I don't dabble in open G). Then I'd have my bases covered, one in alder and one in ash. Getting a 2nd one would be a ways down the line, though. The red looks great but I also think the Blizzard Pearl looks pretty good, too. I still haven't decided but I'm thinking it'll be Blizzard Pearl. Whatever it is, I'm going to figure it out in the next few hours. Thanks again for the replies.

Also, I did have a chance to try one of these a few weeks ago side-by-side with a Baja and I thought the New American Standard was much better, though the Baja seemed like it'd received a lot of abuse on this particular showroom floor.

The 5 screws attachment new bridge looks like the Squier ones; my first impression was that they are the same, with a logo added; in fact , that's not true. The screws holes are at different places...

Absolutely, otherwise folks would've been using Squier plates, paired with vintage "Strat" bent metal saddles to achieve this look for years. But Fender has been cagey about making just enough parts non-interchangeable between the Fenders and the pacific rim Squires (and CIK Fenders) to keep people from 'showing the way' as to what the design of Fender's guitars ought to be.

I am totally convinced, for instance, that the real reason the CIC (PRC) Squier Vintage Modified thinline is 24.75 scale not 25.5 is so that people would be stymied if they tried to upgrade the thing. Everyone in that board room knew the 24.75 would be inferior. I guess a few less PRC trade goods can't be bad.
