This was oiginally going to have a Bigsby right?

I think I prefer the normal bridge, though a bigsby would've been quite awesome in a very awesome way. Its nice and simple now though, beautiful.

Damn, I think I preferred the GOLD guard.

Still, quite the good-looking guit, thanks for sharing with us Jack. Faux binding is really nice.

Hi Jack,

This is just one of the best looking guitars ever. I'm thinking of doing a thinline for my second build and hope you don't mind but I think I'm planning on the same orange stain and faux binding. It just looks so good! I'm not sure if I'm up to doing the tummy contour though.

If you were doing it again, how would you tackle the staining/grain filling issue?

Cheers
Dave

Thanks Dave. Here's what I plan to do next time I stain an ash body.

1. Apply the ColorTone stain with a rag working it into the grain.
2. Apply grain filler working it into the grain.
3. Scrape the grain filler and sand to bare wood.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as required until I have a smooth flat surface.
5. Apply stain again......... repeating application until I get the color I'm after.
6. Spray sanding sealer followed by clear coats.

The maple top doesn't require grain filler. It should however be block sanded flat. Something I didn't do. Now that it's all polished and shiney I can see a couple of low spots.

Stunning work!

I know I'm really late here, but This is how I dealt with some cupping on the top of a mahogany/maple Strat build I did. Came out perfect. Just used some lead-shot bags in the middle. flat as a.. umm.. board...
