Jack- that work is absolutely top notch. The faux binding looks great. You have the patience that I wish I had for detail and finishing.

The (masking) tape thing is a bit of a hassle, well not a hassle really, but the really good stuff is a bit hard to find, and fairly costly.

This stuff [url="http://www.3m.com/Product/information/Scotch-Fine-Line-Tape.html"]
is the ultimate to work with, especially with opaque colors.

It comes in widths of 1/16 to 3/4 inch and is very thin. I've also used the "pinstripe" tape in cases (more readily available) but it's extra thickness has a tendency to build up paint around the edge. The other thing about the pinstripe tape is the adhesive. It's meant to be a more permanent product, and consequently some glue gets left behind when you pull it off (at least in my experience).

The 3M stuff is available at most auto paint mixer stores. Unfortunately not at Pep Boys, Schucks, Auto Zone, etc.

Yeah I have some of the green 3M masking tape in 1/8 and 1/4 in. widths. I decided to use this vinyl pinstriping tape after reading a Dan Erlewine article. It worked well in this application because I just needed to keep the alcohol stain off the edge of the top.

Here's it is in its current condition. I've done some polishing. May do some more while I'm waiting for my Keystone pickups.

Jack, that guitar looks absolutely fantastic. You need to go to the head of the class!

I bought a few rolls of that stuff a while back. I really like it. I've been mail-ordering it from...

Auto Body Tool Mart. Here in the Big City, it is a bit hard to find.

If you know what I mean.

I'm inspired. I'm just starting to get a thinline together and I think I may have to use your pickguard design, with your permission of course. Beautiful work!

wow! that is just the best colour. And you've finished it so nicely.

I'm just building my first basic tele but would love to have a go at a thinine eventually.

Thanks for the inspiration and guidance Jack.

Dress Rehersal

Been doing some hardware installation. The neck still needs some work. This is one of those Eden necks. The fretboard seems to be sitting higher than normal. I may have to rout the neck pocket deeper. Guess I'll find out when I get it strung up.

I wasn't sure about the pickguard color so I made two. Here's a three ply cream guard.

Tough call on the pickguard; the gold gives it a Gretsch vibe, but the cream works just as well.

Beautiful Jack !! - I vote for the cream pickguard too.

How did you get the flame to pop so much on the front - Did you apply a darker tint first and sand it back ?

With the gold, I was disappointed. Less than the sum of its parts.

With the cream, what a beauty!

I'd like to redact the above statement. The gold guard is very nice. The cream guard is even better.

Gorgeous Jack! I want this guitar!

I think the cream pickguard looks nicer.

You're making me want to try doing a thinline. Is it much harder than doing a standard tele?
