I have a new build in my mind...
First, I must say that it began when I felt in love with the Gibson ES-339...
I like the ES-335, and I also like the Les Paul, but have none of them. The 339 is supposed to sound a bit like both of them. Instead of spending $1700.00 on a new guitar, I first decided to change the single coils of my DeArmond Starfire for humbuckers. So I ordered a pair of these: But... they don't look good and don't fit well in the DeArmond. So I had an idea... What if I used them for a Telesonic style Tele... Something like this: ![]() I cut the body a few months ago when I had more time available, and it's been waiting in a box since that time. It is the only body I have without any hole for the pickups. The wood is soft walnut with a glued front. I need ideas for the finish...

Oh, definitely build that one. My vote would be for a bound Gretsch silver jet-type finish.
Of course, I'm also imagining it with a Bigsby to seal the deal.

i like that wood grain pattern!
how about just applying stain that's a shade or two darker than the actual wood? what's the neck gonna be? i go for maple in most cases, but this one might call for rosewood. happy building! and keeping posting photos on the progress.

Between the cherry finish (excellent) pickguard, and bigsby, it could be an SG's single-cutaway cousin. Beautiful!

Gilles, that grain is beautiful. The pups look real cool just laying there. That's gonna be a very versatile tone machine when you're done.
I would mix a one of a kind color from the several stain colors you have or you may want to add(more $, but what the heck). Aniline powder dyes let you use VERY little powder to make dramatic shade differences. Great look, so far. Yours always look great when completed. Good luck and finished pics are high on my to soon see, list. Michael

Thanks for the suggestions...
I need something real different, and beside what I've already got , I don't know what to use... I forgot to add that this was also what started me on this new build... ![]() But I want to see the wood grain, that's for sure. And I would like to keep the $$$ on the lower side because I really don't have any good reason to spend a lot on a new guitar. The Grestch Silver Jet was also in my mind first, because I almost bought a replica once... but as I said, I would like the wood grain to show. Hummm... this could be a way to go, with a transparent Orange see-thru finish. ![]() http://gretschpages.com/guitars/chet-atkins-solidbody/ Rosewood seems to look better than maple then. Gilles

I would almost be tempted to stain the wood orange then apply clear over that. I think that would make for a striking wood grain look.

Btw, I also like that idea. It's the first time I see that version of a Tele pickguard.
But Gretsch Orange seems to be my choice for the color now... Quote:
You're right about the color I think. I once had the Gunsmoke tint in mind because it was kind of orange. Aniline powder dyes... I'll check that.

I can't believe I'm about to suggest this, but how about a turquoise stain? That with the all the chrome would look pretty cool.

I kept searching for the best color to use and can't make up my mind. Orange seems a bit ordinary on that Tele style guitar.
But I ordered the missing hardware. This should give this result. ![]() I still have to decide on the color, the pickguard?, and the neck/fretboard color No Bigsby on this one Btw, a color that I seem to like is like this one. ![]() I'll see...
