I had a 71 burst that weighed about 9 lb. Sounded fine. Sold it.
I have a personal limit of 8 lb. The ones I build are all between 7 and 7.5 lb. That feels nice for me, solid, doesn't tremble when it gets hit hard , nice and stable. For years I only played thinlines. I lucked into one in the 80's and got used to that. I finally decided to go back to the solid ones and find them better for my current needs. Even though they tend to be at least a pound heavier. I think folks talk about the weight cause' its the first thing you notice when you pick up a guitar. You develop preferences. Its just like anything else. I do believe that some of the playing characteristics change with different weights. String return , wolf notes, dead spots, volume balance across string sets are all effected by weight and to a certain extent body wood type. Telecasters and all solid guitars follow the same laws of physics as acoustic guitars. Just in narrower parameters. |

I've got a Tele-Sonic that weighs in around the 9 lb. range.
Chambered mahogany, but I don't think those chambers are very big.

My MIM Standard came in at 10lb...
It seemed odd at first that my Tele would be as heavy if not heavier than some LP's I tried. I assumed that Tele's are always lighter than LP's but I guess not! No wonder my back hurt... sounds like I need to tell the missus that I have a MEDICAL reason to get a new, lighter guitar... hmmm... Last edited by jangmin; February 8th, 2008 at 01:28 PM. I love the feel of heavier guitars - and with the chunky neck / great feel / tone that the Baja has, it all seems to fit together just fine and dandy . One of the reasons I think the Baja has been so successfull is that it's compact body size, weight and neck would convert L** P*** players.

Heavy Telecaster !!!
I have a 2001 American Vintage `52 Telecaster RI, and I have never owned such a heavy Tele...
I believe it weighs just over 10 lbs !!! I owned a 1964 original Telecaster that weighed about 6-7 lbs !!!
