Help me downscale my gig set-up.

I just trading in my BORING minivan for a PT Cruiser. Love this thing, but I knew going in it would mean I need to scale back a little bit.

I'm in a duo - Guitar / Drums.

I take my bag of assorted stuff - TWO guitars - Thus 2 amps-
: Behringer Bass amp for my acoustic sound in direct
: Fender Cybertwin for the Electric sound

My Godin LGX can split - My tele / 51 or other I split the signal with a Planet waves cable into an AC-3 acoustic simulator and then into the Cybertwin.

I have of course the
:Rubber tub of cables
:2 - 12" Behringer speakers (compact)
:18" Behringer SUB
:two speaker stands
:light stand
:mike/music stand
:4 can lights
:two monitors
:Behringer Head (small)

I need the drummer to take the lights and stand / speaker stands.

BUT, what option do I have for a small/cheap sub solution.

Also, instead of using the 2 guitar amps. What is a great solution for good sound by going direct and just putting the acoustic/electric sounds throught the monitors for me us to hear, and of course through the mains.

I obviously need to pack light w/o changing our sound all that much.

Think I should have put this in Bad Dog. Sorry.

I use a Boss GT-8 no amp straight to the PA. I'm in a duo also, two guitars and a computer that we produce all our backing tracks with. two Behringer powered spkrs two hot spot monitors (very small) my partner goes direct to PA with a Boss ME-50. lights are the biggest space hogs and looking to reduce that somehow myself...anyway we have a pretty small footprint with this.

Cheers

Have a look at these amps. I've got the 10watt version which has been superceded by this 30watt. Loud enough for small venues, can be D.I.d into the desk for re-inforcement. Great sounding amp.

possibly...

just use a DI on the acoustic...it's just so simple that way and EVERYONE does it like that...it works fine for what you'd need...BUT i'd stay away from the acoustic simulator stuff ---noisy and thin! pump an acoustic thru the PA

probably the only thing even bringing your SUB into the action is the kick drum...SO is it absolutely necessary for your duo??? EQ on the kick channel would obviously be different, but you know what sound you want, so take some time to dial it in your mains and see if you can leave the sub at home. or ask the drummer to carry it too -- those guys don't have enough stuff to haul around

give a listen to a couple of the songs on my website. They are not studio but essentially live for what our duo sounds like...good hearted woman is probably the best mix however I do hit one wierd note at the end of a solo. this is all thru the PA, no amps.

Cheers

When we do the acoustic duo thing, my brother either uses a small diaphragm condenser mic or runs his Martin into an LR Baggs Para DI preamp/direct box. Definitely lighter and smaller than an amp!

Cheers, Tim

Hey, I like my AC-3 and Tele better than a real acoustic, too.

The foudnation of my sound is a decidedly non-twangy Telecaster that gets most of the way to acoustic tone by itself, coupled with the often-derrided Boss AC-3 to add that little something extra, running through a sonically clean and relatively high fidelity SS amp that doesn't "color" the sginal coming out of the AC-3 like a typical electric guitar tube amp does.

It isn't noisy. And it is anything but "thin sounding." I use this set-up precisely because it ISN'T thin sounding. Without going into a lot of booring detail, my guitar style relies heavily on melodic lead breaks wherein the melody is carried, for the most part, on the G and D strings while the others serve to provide accent notes. Basically, I treat the guitar kind of like a 5 string banjo, but I use a flatpick. The added bit of sustain that this combo delivers over a "real acoustic" compliments my playing style well, and the guitar tone goes well with my voice. It is a fuller tone that I could get with a real acoustic guitar, and the Tele is a whole lot more gigworthy than a decent acoustic is in terms of the ability to take a lickin' and keep on pickin'.

My combo might not sound like a Martin. So what? It definitely sounds like me from the first note and I happen to like that sound. I think I'm in good company because I can pick out Willie Nelson on the first note and his guitar doesn't sound like a Martin, either, even though his own march to the beat of a different tonal nirvana drum actually incorporates a Martin.

The much-maligned Boss AC-3 might not be for everyone, but that doesn't mean that it can't be exactly the right solution for someone.

It definitely is for me. It sounds like it's workin' for the O.P., too.

The new Line 6 (no I don't work for them but I wish I did) POD X3 floor board, let's you plug in 2 guitars and you can also have 2 seperate signal chains for either going to an amp or direct into a PA. That's 1 piece of gear that you can't put the acoustic and the elctric through.

Here's a quick hit. Not exactly cheap, but switch to a set of wireless in-ear monitors.
