Played a Baja Today

Or I should say yesterday since its after midnight. I had handled one once before at GC but this one was at a mom and pop shop. Wow! is about all I can say and I want it. It was set up perfectly and the neck was just fantastic for me. It was marked at 789 bucks though - they can't be serious I hope. Plugged it into a Tophat of some kins an whoa - gotta have it. Also played just about every kind of strat made as I'm also on the hunt for one of those too. Really didn't want to like the Custom Shop Ash Strat but wow, what a neck it had on it very slick and with birdseye type finish to the maple with great frets too.

Of all the Teles I have played that Baja they have is wonderful one of the best Ive ever stroked next to my ASAT and a real 73 Tele. Dang.. if money was just no object. Really liked the Knopfler Rosewood Strat too. Of course I had to play the 60's relic they had for 2500 bucks too. Then for the grand finally I told him that I really am shopping for a Les Paul but just haven't found anything yet that really spoke to me. He said "step right over here young man".

Then he pulled out this VOS 60's Long Tenin custom shop LP in cherry SB. Oh my GAWD it was definitely the one until he told me the price ....gulp...4200 smackers!!! No wonder it spoke to me. He showed me photo's of the guitar being made and everything and the difference between it and all the regular Gibbys. It was true to its vintage with proper neck attachment and all. Well, I got my work cut out for me now.

It is fun when a goodly number of the geetars you pick up inspire you. It is satisfying to be good with your playing on most any nice guitar.

The way you're checking out the other possibilities, sounds like a batchelor party.

But the secret with guitars ( shhh...bubba ) is you can have more than one.
More than one even of one model. When I stop being able to tell them apart without looking at the note stuck on the neck plate, then I'll cut back.

Yeah it is a kind of bachelor party since the papers were signed last week.
Yep, starting to finally get my priorities straight. The Baja's are even better than I first thought. Funny how even though I handled one at GC that was just okay because they didn't take the time to set it up properly - so I bought a 50's CP Strat. Then I go to a smaller store that took the time to set theirs up properly and there is no way I would have been able to opt for that strat over the Baja. GC should maybe think about setting up their guitar right. Of course the real lesson to be learned is by me - not GC. I will make it a priority to visit mom & pop more often than GC.
