Squier Black and Chrome Special Edition Tele
Any of you have experience with one of these guitars? I've been looking at 'em for a while, but they just went out of production I guess....since on all the music websites it says "On Order"...< don't know what that really means, but next time they'll be available is April...

I have one. It is a Squier Standard Tele. Anything you read about a Squier Standard Tele pertains to this guitar as well. It is just another color option.
As for mine, you would have to fight me for it. It looks great, sounds great and feels great. It is my favorite guitar. Hope this helps. Dan

I thought the pulled the plug on this model when the new round of Vintage Modified models came out. About the time the Tele Special and Fat Tele were killed off as well. They closed out around $ 139 or less. Most folks bought them and threw away the pickguard.
There are a few still around, here and there in the shops. Check Lighthouse Music, they still have Squier 51s sometimes. Bubbanov |

The official Squier website still lists the Black & Chrome Tele, but my impression is that there is no information on that website indicative of changes for 2008. And I haven't heard any news from any other sources about what will be different in 2008 in the Squier line.
Even if they are no longer in production, it's not that old of a model so they are still showing up on ebay somewhat regularly in good condition. I occasionally see Squier Teles show up for sale on ebay that are several years old and advertised as new, I recently bought a 2003 3TS advertised that way and it did indeed seem NOS. So if you keep looking maybe you'll be able to find a decent one. The black finished headstock face is what really distinguishes these from other Squier Standards, in a way you can't replicate unless you rob the neck from another one of these. There were a couple at a GC near me, one had quite a bit of shop wear and the other was okay. After trying them and some other guitars one day I decided to sleep on it. I went back the next day thinking I might get the better one but it was gone! What made the shop wear so bad on the second one was that the black headstock finish was chipped. The most unique piece of the guitar was damaged! |

The Black and Chrome I think was supposed to be a limited run, but so are the Custom Squier Teles and those are still being produced. It wouldn't surprise me if its on its way out as it seems like Squier has been streamlining some of the Standard Teles as Antique Burst is no longer offered at MF. They just offer VB, BM, and CAR.

If you have your heart set on that color scheme I would bet you could track one down or take your chances and wait. If not just pick one of the available colors in the Standard series and have at it. I changed the pickguard on mine to mint green. I also filed the fret ends and did some additional light filing on some frets and on the nut. I have a few hours invested in setting up my black and chrome but in the end I have a guitar that really pleases me in all ways tele. I think if you take some time reading on this forum that you can do this too. If that doesn't interest you, you would serve yourself well to have your new guitar set up by a professional. I wish you luck and welcome to the forum.

I've have one also.
I really wanted the black headstock and ordered one online over here. Had to lose the 'chrome' scratch straight away. The other problem for me is i really don't like the thin flat, neck. It is the nicest finished of my Squier necks, but i just don't like the profile. I prefer the fatter necks on my Custom and Custom II. A nice guitar for sure, but I will probably offload mine or keep it for modding. But i do love the matching headstock.

I've had one for about 2years now, was my first Tele. I love it, the neck is perfect for me. Upgraded the pups, tuners, electronics, put in a bone nut. Definitely the best player of all my Teles. I like the chrome pickguard, I dunno why everyone hates on it, if all you guys don't want them, send them to me!
Here's mine..

Here are the before and after shots of mine. The chrome pickguard didn't bother me too much but I was blinding the guys in the band.
