Grounding problem on AV52RI?

I know single coils are noisy so maybe there isn't a problem. I tend to use my neck pickup most of the time but when I switch to the bridge, it's very noisy. I tend to practice where I have two computers running (where I'm watching DVD lessons or listening to music). When I turn these off the buzzing is less pronounced. One other thing, when I touch the volume or tone knob or the switch plate, the buzzing reduces (hence, why I thought it might have to do with grounding).

Related question - do most 52RI owners switch to modern wiring or leave it vintage? I'm thinking of switching...

Hey Cheesehead,
Your 52RI sounds about normal. I had the same thing when I got mine
a few years back. Coming from humbuckered guitars, it took some
time to adjust. Over time I've settled on what works best for my situation:
updated wiring (more usefull), Nocaster pickups (RWRP-so it doesn't hum in the middle position), and copper foil shielding. Others will argue about any one of these things, but they work well for me. Have fun!

Does touching the strings have the same effect as touching the knobs? If yes, your guitar is properly grounded. When you touch the metal parts, your body is connected to ground and acts as a shield.

Shielding your guitar will help with noise reduction. Read here:

Have you tried the guitar in other venues? What I mean is that the way the electrical wiring of your place is set up can have a huge impact on how much your guitar buzzes.

I've kept the vintage wiring, by the way - you can actually put the pickup selector switch between the bridge and neck position to get the "both" sound. It's what Strat players used to do before the 5-way pickup switch was invented.

I changed mine to the more modern wiring and found the guitar more versatile that way. Although the original "vintage" wiring was cool it was not very useful for my needs.
