I just finished a lunchtime visit to Brent's myspace site. Enjoyed the music tracks especially the very entertaining and fun Hot Wired. Brent's profile is interesting and very well-written.
Back to work! Thanks for the link! Mik

Well I'll be dad gum! I cant even BELIEVE Keifer Sutherland has a signature model guitar. I am flabbergasted by that!
And I was taking issue with you ACTUALLY SAID which was basically that" outside of this board" Brent was basically unknown. The truth of the matter is that hardly anyone on the tdpri had a clue who Brent was and probably still doesnt! This place is NOT his fan base by any stretch of the imagination! We have only met or communicated with a total of thirty or so people from the tdpri versus the overwhelming and sometimes scary barrage of people he deals with and hears from on a daily basis (regardless of whether we are in Nashville or anyplace in the US or foreign soil) who are not part of this forum and have no idea it exists. Conservatively speaking he is recognized about 85 percent of the places he goes if it is a sporting event or an airport restroom. We just got back from St Petersburg - a guy working in Walgreens chased us through the store with a box of crayons he grabbed off a shelf and ripped open for Brent to sign one of his dollar bills from his pocket! Our kids hate to go out to eat with him because we are always "joined" by so many people who hang around our table and sit on the floor by him on their knees while he is trying to eat and they ask him all these crazy questions about what amp he used in 1993 on some song or whatever. This happens in Nashville or Vermont. Granted - Madonna and Jessica Simpson have it way worse, but it is a constant thing that happens everywhere he goes. He deals with it very graciously if I do say so myself. Just because you ask random people if they have ever heard of him and they havent means nothing. Over on the Bad Dog Cafe there is a thread about the famous actor Heath Ledger passing away today (so sad). About half of the people who responded on the thread have no idea who he is and he was nominated for an Academy Award last year for Brokeback Mountain and has been famous for years. My oldest daughter plastered his posters all over her bedroom. Its like world famous opera singers. I would not recognize them and probably only know a few names. But people who love opera and make it a point to know all about it would be clamoring to get the autographs of those opera stars if they say them in a hotel or restaurant. They would be household names to those people. Same with Brent and some other high profile musicians. They have the same type of following. Just the other day I was talking with a graduate of Berklee School of Music and they DID NOT KNOW who Larry Carlton or Jeff Beck was Last edited by blue water girl; January 22nd, 2008 at 10:07 PM. I played one and I must say I was extremely impressed. Big chunky neck and a very resonant tone even when playing unplugged. Primo pickups right out of the box. I would definitely consider one of these before I would consider dropping $2K on a Fender Custom Shop Telecaster. The attention to detail is definitely there with the Valley Arts BM sig model. A custom finish in gloss black with a cream pickguard.......now THAT would be something! take care, Robbie

One last post on the subject and I'm out. If it sounds like I'm trying to fight/argue I promise that I'm not. I think we really agree! If I suggested that this board is the only place that Brent is famous - obviously I was totally incorrect and that wasn't my intention at all. I understand that he is.
The point that I'm trying to make is that in the world we live in, people pay way more attention to "fame" (whatever that means) than talent. What percentage of Americans would recognize a picture of Paris Hilton? What percentage would recognize a picture of John Coltrane? One is an absolute waste of carbon (in my opinion) and the other is one of the greatest musicians this country has ever produced. The Keiffer Sutherland and Avril signature guitars are a symptom of this. Do I blame either company for trying to make a buck? Absolutely not, it's the American way. But in the talent/fame equation, I put Brent on the talent side. Doesn't mean he isn't famous, it just means that Paris and Brittney get more pub. Having said all of that, thank you again Julie for putting up with me!

For me, a persons notoriety is loosely based on the number of hits they get when googled...try it on a few of the names mentioned in this post. I have a hard time swallowing some of the claims mentioned on both sides.
And now, back to the guitars!
