Help date this tele body
Probably ya'll seen my other posts in different areas about this tele.
But I purchased it the day after Xmas. Here's the breakdown that I was told and I double checked the story. I bought it from Dale Allen and he stated it as a 60's body with double parsons/white bender. Must have been refinished in Sunburst and the binding installed at the time. It's ivoroid colored. Has the original top loader and through body Pat Pend bridge with threaded saddles. The biggest lead is that it's nice ash. Most likely not a solid color from the 60's. So I have done my searching on it. Here's what I found.

crap on a crutch!
I think we all could say who would be the first to know, but he's done and gone. that bridge looks like the one on my '67 Tele custom, is there a patent # on it? those saddles were used for a specific time in the mid-60s, somebody on here should be able to say exactly when this would have been.. I reckon it was originally that blue color and the binding was applied when it was re-finished, and at the same time they also routed for a Strat pup in the middle, ala the Nashville Tele? that would jive with the double bender, IMO. hey, it's a nice lookin' body!!

The bridge is the diagonal Fender Pat. Pend and has the holes for top loading and through body. Applied from 59-62. I forgot to mention, Dale parted out the neck that came on it, a slab board neck.

New update on this tele.
I was so curious on the date of this tele and sanded out the bridge and neck pup routings. No date, BUT!!!!!!!! I found Daphne blue under the neck pup. So this tele would have been a rare bird at one time! Daphne blue was a very rare color in the 58-62' tele's. Sad but true.........I have a great tele, but very little is intact. I've been working on negotiating a deal to get the original neck from the guy who sold it to me. Original slab board neck.

Talk to the boys at this locale. They might know more:
http://www.webervst.com/telecaster/ Guitars do sometimes get parted out for a good reason. Not all necks will sound good on all bodies; maybe this original pairing was a bust. I hope so, I hate seeing early stuff parted out. Amps, Bikes, Cars, Teles or Strats.

If its been refinished might be more clues under the control panel. Also inside the jack cup area might shed some light.
If someone refinished an original 60's body that was sonic blue or daphene blue they made a $50,000 guitar worth way way less. Especially if it was double bound. I cant even imagine what an all original double bound Tele in Blue would be worth cause Ive never seen one anywhere.

Maybe it's just the pic, but the body wood looks like Alder to me.
59-60 is the double string hole top loader. 54-58 used steel saddles. 54-62 bridge is stamped Fender Pat Pend, looks like a late 50's bridge. Late 55 Fender changed to staggard poles on the bridge pup, maybe yours has been replaced it looks flat. it looks like late 50's knobs, but only Fuzzy really knows. I'd say a late 50's... 1959? |

Hey Scott,
Maybe I should of added.......pup's, pickgaurd, control assembly are not old....all RI stuff. My thoughts are 59. The back shows allot more grain. I've seen a few pics of sunburst customs with grain that looks like Ash. It may be just some grainy alder. Off topic: I had a question for ya? Not guitar related, more along the lines of reptiles. What time of the year do baby snakes hatch in our area? I invented a fishing lure that looks like a baby snake and used it with great success last summer. I want to start using it right about the time that the water snakes are moving about...the babies that is.

Your lure should be very effective in late summer, especially in southern Texas. |

Most snakes are now becoming active after the winter domant period right now though. That inludes last years babies that are going to be active searching for food. Now would be a great time to give that lure a try! |
