with no previous G&L experience, I'd say that the classic and classic customs would give you the closest twanging sound (tele bridge pickup) because of the pickup mounted on the bridge plate.

If you are interested in "bang for your buck", check out the imports. The G&L Tributes are fine guitars for less than $600, and they twang in a big way! They look beautiful too!

I'd say a ASAT Custom Classic 'S' with the middle pickup.
I like the big MFDs on the ASAT Special, but it is more of a rock guitar. Don't forget to check with Buffalo Brothers in Carlsbad, CA and see if they still have any of those maple bodied 3 pickup ASATs they had a special run on. They still had 3 of them in August. I see really sharp used ASATs, US ASATs for $ 650 around the states. Try out as many individual guitars as you can. My personal preference is a four bolt neck guitar with a bi-cut, not a 2007 and on capped neck/plekked neck guitar, YMMV. I can easily see you finding a rosewood neck or a Special that will get you home, just about anything but a Bluesboy (darned nice geetar) could work for ya. http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/ Bubbanov |

I just bought Their ASAT Tribute indonesian made model and let me tell you it twangs like there's no tomorrow - and the bass string wow! Talkin about bite and chunk. This thing has sonic qualities beyond the run o the mill tele trust me. Don't know what kind of kryptonite they put in thos pickups but they are hot. $450 bucks of sonic bliss and no sticky laquered neck either. Go out and plug one in and I think you will be surprized.

You want one with the "Classic" pickup and bridge. There are many variations, so you pick what you like.
The Classic has a small MFD in a Telecaster style bridge. Very nice "twang-factor", especially on the bass strings. Mine's a Classic Custom. ![]() P.

The USA ASAT Classic with maple neck is like a hot rodded 52RI. Not as sparkly but still really nice.
I've seen a popular country player in OZ use a USA Legacy model all night. That had a nice tone also. |

Yeah I shoulda added that my ASAT Tribute pictured above in black and white pearloid pickguard is indeed the "Classic" version ASAT.
That's another thing although very subjective: The ASATs including the Tribute imports are dressed up real nice. For just over 400 bucks to get a beautifull guitar like that is above the norm. Of course I've always wanted a black tele and love the pearloid guard. STill, it seems all the G&L's are tasty looking gitts. |
