Get that Classic Fender Sound (Jim Weider)

I think I've talked about this video before, but I wanted to talk about it again because the new DVD version just went to the top of my Christmas wish list.

If you've never heard of this, it's just Jim sitting around playing a bunch of cool vintage Fender guitars and amps (starting with a '52 tele through a Tweed Super, I think) and playing the licks of the people who made them famous. He plays Buchanan on a Blackguard tele, Burton on a 60s Pink Paisley, etc, etc. (There are some Strats on there, but who really cares about those?)

Very cool video that I thought would look good at the top of some of your Christmas lists, too.

(For some reason, Santa never brings me a clean, all-original Broadcaster. Maybe I haven't been good all these years.)

As well as an entertaining show n tell video of Fender gear it is also a great guitar instruction video.

Without a toothbrush and a TELE your in trouble

I love Jim Weider and his classic Fender Sound Video. When I first saw that video it sent me over the top for a black guard TELE. I quote" If you don't have a Telecaster and a tooth brush your in trouble". Truer words never spoken. After that video I bought my first Tele a 52 re-issue (still have it) and then I bought a 58, 54, etc etc. Cool guy and cool new DVD.

Thanks

What a great video. Its hard to believe that it came out over 10 years ago. I bought it when it first came out, and proceded to wear it out. I watched it again about a year ago. What a great player, what great tone. Zac

what level?

What level would you say the video, in terms of teaching?

Does it just demonstrate a lot of licks, or is it careful to show how to do every pop and snarl and twang?

Mickey, the video is terrific in getting into the details of playing style - Jim spends time going through "whistlers", various rhythm styles, and explains all of it so its easily understood. I think you'd get a lot out of it - I know I have. And an incredible amount of vintage equipment to drool over too!

Alright, that settles it, I'm in. I just hope it doesn't give me too much G.A.S.

I've had it since it first came out......

always enjoy it. I really like the part in which he's showing techniques by Roy Buchanan and says: "he also did $**t like..." and goes "oops"...I love the look on his face......very funny.

Burp..............

INCREDIBLY GAS inducing 90 minutes! 8)

Good stuff from a young guy Weider. I've got his other vids (country blues) which are JUST as worthwhile but a little more laid back.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!!

Finally on DVD!

I've been saying to my wife for the last two years: "I really wish this was on DVD so I could quit worrying about wearing it out." (I tell her because she cares, she really, really cares...)

I just wish there was even more tab in the booklet that comes with it. What are those nifty western chords he's doing on the black guard Tele???

OK, I've got my credit card in hand and I can't get the link to work. Typed in a couple times too. Did a search for CD Freedom and got some links, but they won't work either. :( So I checked over at CDUniverse, my favorite online CD/DVD store, and they have it for $20.89. What's the price at CD Freedom provided I ever get the link to work? This sounds like something I should own and something that's gonna get me in BIG trouble as far as G.A.S. is concerned.

I just tried the CD Freedom link too, and it doesn't work here either. Could be temporary. Think I'll try it again tomorrow.

Well is CD Freedom cheaper than $20.89? I searched for the DVD at a few other places and the second cheapest I found it was at Amazon for $24.99. I went ahead and ordered it from CD Universe for $20.89. They've got great prices and quick shipping.

Still waiting.

So, let me get this straight...

Jim is really St. Peter, and he's playing all of those vintage, mint, candy-colored Fenders through those cool old tweeds, brown/white tolexers, and blackfaces...just to show what awaits us beyond the Pearly Gates? On DVD?

Praise the Lord and pass the Pro Amp...now, then--where's my check card?

Joel :P

Picked it up at McCabe's...

... in Santa Monica. Only had a chance to look at the James Burton style segment. It's great! Instructive and entertaining at the same time. Can't wait to watch the rest of the DVD. In fact, think I'll sign off here and go do just that.

I just wanted to thank everyone who posted about this DVD. I didn't know it was out until I read about it here. I ordered it Thursday, it shipped Monday, and it's been in my DVD Player since Wed! I'd never seen the video so the DVD is a real treat, especially thru my home theater system. Talk about having some vintage G.A.S.! I want one of everything!!! Killer playing too. I LOVE this DVD!!! :D
