Hello all, I approached Rich thinking that the wood was oak as that was what I was told was the only wood in the barn. The piece I chose was out of the grain bins in the back of the barn which was built in the 1800's in lancaster county PA. Since the wood is from a grain bin cedar would make sense because of its resistance to bugs.

Seriously, I tip my hat to a guy with such passion and skills as a luthier/builder.

It's a design that we call Osprey I. This one is quite different from our prototype, a one-off semihollow for Jeremy. You may have seen the shape on another build thread I did... It's our design. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...ight=reclaimed

Well, back from our trip, and back to work... I did some layout work, and penciled in some key locations
![]() Then removed the top and routed the wiring channels and switch location ![]() Then I went to work with the scroll saw, and rough cut the "F" holes. I'll finish those up by hand with a razor knife, files, and sandpaper. ![]() Once the holes are clean, I'll glue up the top, and start my final shaping..

The neck on the walnut one is Pao Ferro. I stained the walnut to match the natural finished neck.

I'm inclined to agree with you. It works like pine, but looks/feels/smells different from any pine I've used. The more I work with it, the more I'm convinced it is some kind of old growth pine. Really cool wood.

So I spent some time refining the F holes, glued up the top, and have been block sanding to shape. It's really starting to come around.
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm going to hold off routing the neck pocket, pickup cavities, etc., until all the parts arrive. Safer to have everything on hand...

Sometimes I connect them, sometimes I don't. This build is with softer woods, and I want to maintain as much strength as possible between the neck pocket and the bridge. If it was a hardwood top I would have removed the core wood around the neck pickup area. They are connected by an oversized wire rout, which runs beneath the neck pickup, but I don't like the idea of a large void directly in line with the string pull on this instrument.
