Rice Denim-caster in the house!

It was actually waiting for me when I got home yesterday. I haven't had a chance to play it yet as I wanted to give it some time to come up to room temperature. The guitar looks and feels great. I've got my Maz Jr warming up and I'm about to go take her for a spin or three. I'd like to thank Paul for maintaining this great site. I'm sure my employer would prefer that I spend less time lurking here. I'd also like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the fundraiser. In particular, I'd like to thank Rich and Chris from Rice Custom Guitars.

Well, I'm off to introduce my Rice Custom to my Maz Jr.

+1 to what the birthday man says.

The denim looks great with the black guard and the rosewood board.

Congrats,

I'm getting nervous about this introduction to Dr.Z.. It has been two hours... awww, who's counting...

Heh, I run my Z through a 15" Weber Blue Dog. Sometimes I get caught up fondling the low strings.

One word: Excellent. The guitar sounds great and is very comfortable to play. The neck, in particular, is awesome. It may be a smoother playing guitar than my AV '62 Custom. I was playing while sitting about 5 feet from the TV (on but muted) and it was dead quiet. Of course, these impressions are based on a single session of playing and are therefore statistically insignificant. In the interest of maintaining the scientific integrity of TDPRI, I should go play some more.

Glad it's working for you so far. I liked that one. Hope it meets your expectations. Set the bar high.

Amazing looking finish, but after seeing some of Rich's other stuff, I don't suppose we should be amazed.

Enjoy it.

Congrats, that's a beautiful guitar. A Rice Custom and a Dr. Z? Man, it's nice to see how the "other half" lives!

I experimented with several types that didn't work very well, then finally used diluted Mod Podge, let it cure, then sealed with waterborne acrylic, followed months later with nitro. The worst part was shrinkage and bubbles. The project was pretty challenging to get the effect I was after.
