Pickguard Swap. Opinions?

My Muddy Waters came with the gold aluminum and the Baja came with white.

I was wondering how they would look if I swapped them. The Muddy is now the way it left the factory.

What do you think of how the Baja looks with the gold guard?

Here's a before and after...

Honest opinions now.....my ex used to say I had NO style sense....

Put them back the way they were, or leave them as they are now?

I like the Baja plus gold.

Wish I had enough gold to buy a Baja.

Not feelin much mojo from the white on red, but the gold on Baja is sublime. It looks so good I'm surprised Fender hasn't put the two together.

Like I said, I have no sense of style. My thoughts are that the gold on the Baja looks pretty damn good, so maybe I'm getting some in my older years!

While the gold on red looks pretty good, I kept having visions of a Chinese restaurant I used to love eating at.

Muddy liked white, I'll leave it that way. I'm ok with it.

Actually, they could be pink and purple, and they'd still sound as good.

I like 'em as they are now/after. The white pickguard picks up the neck inlays, and the gold on the other blends nicely, as others noted above. The only thing better on the tan/beige/cream tele would be a blackguard.

FWIW,
fphh

Yep, definately after. The gold really looks good with the desert sand.

The first post for fphh! Welcome to the TDPRI!

I like the Baja much better with white (before). Ignoring the authenticity factor, I like the Muddy marginally better with the gold but it looks good with the white too. I sense from this and other threads here that white isn't a very popular color for pickguards though.

Given how easy they are to change on a Tele with 21 frets and a body mounted neck pickup, you can change them back and forth as often as you want. And given the relatively low cost of pickguards, you get additional guards in those or other colors and have even more choices.

So you really don't have to make a long term or exclusive commitment to them one way or the other.

That's a nice looking little family of Teles you have there. What model is the blue one?

The blue one is an AVRI '62. A real honey.

I think I'll get a black one for the Muddy, and then I can switch them around. BUT....it is just a little bit silly, worrying about what the pickguard looks like, isn't it? But it's kinda like changing shoes.

I don't like the gold one on anything... I don't like it at all... If it was mine I would use the gold one as a pattern to cut out leather pickguards...

White on the Muddy.
Mint on the blue with a rosewood board.
Black or parchment on the sand Baja.

Plenty of folks here enjoy contemplating and admiring aesthetic differences of Teles. If someone thinks doing that at some level is silly, they should simply ignore what they think is a silly discussion and focus instead on what they think is a good discussion or other use of their time.

She drives great. Big, fat neck, and heavy body that rings on and on. Great pickups. Twisted Tele at the neck, and Broadcaster at the bridge. Mine is Desert Tan. A seriously good Telecaster for the money.

That IS mint on the Ice Blue Metallic.

LEATHER? Sorry, but leather on a git is REAL silly, IMO. (don't throw rocks)

The Baja white is not bad, but don't order the single ply white from Stew Mac, it makes a refrigerator look sexy, whew!

You haven't seen Mike's pickguards, they are spectacular. I am so envious of his ability to make that happen, can't tell ya.

My first two Bajas got swapped to blackguards, but I'd have tried the gold if it was handy.

Where did the stock Baja guards go? On red guitars, of course.

I guess leather could be nice, it just seems so "cowboy"... :)

The white baja guard would look better if it was 3 ply, W/B/W.
